This publication provides comprehensive information about vital events in Alaska during calendar year 2023, including data on births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, divorces, and adoptions. Subjects include fertility rates, teen birth rates, maternal and infant health characteristics, death rates, leading causes of death, life expectancy, and marriage, divorce, and adoption rates.

Key Birth Facts: There were 9,022 Alaska resident births in 2023 (down from 9,366 in 2022). The fertility rate was 61.9 births per 1,000 women ages 15-44 years (down from 64.6 in 2022). Charlotte and Oliver were the most popular names for newborn girls and boys, respectively. The average mother was 29.2 years old.

Key Death Facts: There were 5,533 Alaska resident deaths in 2023 (down from 5,724 in 2022). The age-adjusted death rate was 767.4 deaths per 100,000 population (down from 805.2 in 2022). Average life expectancy was 77.2 years (up from 76.8 in 2022). The three leading underlying causes of death were: #1. Malignant Neoplasms (1,057 deaths), #2. Diseases of Heart (912 deaths) and #3. Accidents (679 deaths).
