SEE THE EYE GUYS IN VALDEZ
The Eye Guys are set to be in Valdez at the Civic Center this Friday and Saturday to help you with all your eye needs. Whether you need an eye exam, contact lens fitting, glasses, RX sunglasses, or safety eyewear for sports and work, the Eye Guys can take care of you. They accept Denali Kid Care, Medicaid, Aetna, VSP, and Meritain as well as other insurances. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended.

  • Registration for Kindergarten will take place from April 7-18, 2014.
  • Check in at the Hermon Hutchens office.
  • Proof of birth date (REGISTERED birth certificate) and shot records will be needed for pre-enrollment.
  • If you are unable to come in during these dates, please call the school at 835-4728.  We would like to get an accurate count of students for next year.

Bio-metric Screening sign up is now taking place at the Health & Fitness Center. Screenings will take this week.
Don’t forget that by logging in your bio-metric screening numbers (pre and post) you get HY Bonus points!
Also, participants must complete a final weigh in by April 17th to be considered for any prize drawings.

VALDEZ FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE
Friday, April 25th at the Civic Center starting at 6pm
Enjoy an evening of dancing, dinner and family fun! Celebrate the evening’s theme: “Some Enchanted Evening,” and make lasting memories. Have fun with an event photo booth and door prizes. Will dad be out of town that weekend? Don’t worry, bring your uncle, grandpa or a family friend.  The Father Daughter Dance is sponsored by “A Daughter’s Heart of Alaska” and local Valdezeans.  Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Weathered Anchor until April 21st. FREE CHILD FIND SCREENING
Valdez City Schools & Infant Learning Program will be conducting FREE Child Find Screenings on Thursday, April 17th for children from birth to 5 years old. If you have concerns about your child’s speech, vision, hearing, motor skills, learning skills, and overall development please call 835-4323 (for children from birth to 3 years old) or 834-4713 (for children 3-5 years old) to schedule an appointment.

PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR 2014 WOMEN’S DERBY
It's the 10th anniversary of the Valdez Women's Silver Salmon Derby and preparations are underway. Organizers are looking for any kind of glass jars or liquor bottles to make decorations. Jars or liquor bottles can be dropped off at Prospector or call Jessica at 480-203-3065.

 
FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS
Meetings for a local support group welcomes parents, family and friends of children who are intellectually gifted yet challenged by behavioral issues, Autism spectrum, ADHD, OCD and more, will take place on the second Monday of each month at 7pm in the Coast Guard Community Center.
