HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL

It's time for Valdez's annual Halloween Carnival. It will be held at the Civic Center from 6 to 8:30pm on Halloween night. Come out, dress up and have some fun. Bring yourself, friends, or your family for good Halloween fun.

Regular Time: 7pm – 10pm

If you are looking for something to fill in your Halloween, come to the haunted house this Friday. Donation of $3 is all it will cost to give you a scare. Oct. 31st Special NON-SCARY Time: HALLOWEEN-Oct 31st 3PM– 5PM FREE

 ALASKA FISHING PHOTO CONTEST
October 21, 2014. Juneau, Alaska - The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) once again invites photographers from Alaska and beyond to enter your photographs in our Alaska Fishing Families Photo Contest.  The Fan Favorite Grand Prize winner, which will be decided by ASMI’s Facebook fans, will win two round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines. In addition to the Facebook Fan Favorite, ASMI will select the appropriate category for each photo and award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes in each of the following categories:
  • Best Action Photo
  • Best Boat Photo
  • Best Family or Kid Photo
  • Best Fish Photo
  • Best Humor Photo
  • Best Scenic Photo
  • Best Throwback Photo

15th ANNUAL BOOK BASKET AUCTION
Saturday, November 1st
6pm at the Valdez Consortium Library


 Support the local library and indulge your creative flair by designing and donating a book basket to be auctioned off at the event. Baskets are to be developed around a theme and should contain at least one new book and other items related to the theme. Baskets may be dropped off at the library no later than 8pm on Thursday, October 30th, 2014. Proceeds will be used to purchase materials for all ages.

PUMPKIN CARVING CONTEST

Come display your BEST carving handiwork along the windows of The Valdez Civic Center during the Annual Halloween Carnival! Attendees of the carnival will help to vote on the best designs.*Admission into the contest is free. Winners in each category will receive two free movie passes! Pre-carved, fully completed submissions will be accepted from 9 a.m., Oct. 30th until 5:30 p.m. on Halloween evening. Lighting of your pumpkin is not required, but if the pumpkin is lit, it must be done so with a battery-powered source. No open flames are permitted.

Canned Food Drive
Monday, October 13th – Friday, October 31st


CVEA is having their annual Co–op Month featuring a canned food drive. If you bring non-perishable food items to CVEA Monday, October 13 thru Friday, October 31 and you will be entered to win a $50, $100, or $200 CVEA Energy Credit. Make sure you bring your kids to the CVEA office Friday, October 31 between 3-5 p.m. Kids will get a spooktacular gift and enjoy a fun candy parade through the entire office.

ALASKA POWER ASSOCIATION HOLDS 63rd ANNUAL MEETING IN VALDEZ


More than 170 people will gather in Valdez on Wednesday for three days of workshops, meetings and presentations designed to address the issues facing electric utilities in Alaska. Those in attendance will hear an update on the Allison Creek Hydroelectric Project, and some insight on what is happening with Eklutna Generation Station. These are both in addition to the host of speakers on hand with ranging areas of expertise.

Valdez Arts Council will be hosting the annual Blues Cruise Fundraiser this Friday with live music from Rik Nielsen and friends. Boarding begins at 6:30 pm with a 7pm departure on the Stan Stephen’s MV Valdez Spirit. The cost is $50 per ticket and you can get your tickets at A Rogue’s Garden and Harbor Landing General Store.
MEET 2012’S NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ADVENTURER OF THE YEAR

Valdez Parks & Rec invites you to join Jennifer Pharr Davis, an endurance hiker named 2012’s National Geographic Adventurer of the Year this Tuesday at 7 P.M at the Valdez Library. Jennifer has logged over 12,000 miles on some of the world’s best trails across six different continents. They will also be announcing the H.A.W.K. finale winners! Please join us at the Valdez library, for what is sure to be an exciting and inspiring presentation from this world class athlete, author and wilderness adventurer. 


 
FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS
Meetings for a local support group welcomes parents, family and friends of children who are intellectually gifted yet challenged by behavioral issues, Autism spectrum, ADHD, OCD and more, will take place on the second Monday of each month at 7pm in the Coast Guard Community Center.
