PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF May 13th through May 19th

5/13 Traffic Complaint: Officers respond to a complaint of a motor home parked in a lane of traffic at the ferry terminal. Lost Property: A Sony Ericson cell phone was reported lost in the Valdez area. If you have found this item, please turn it into the Police Department. Arrested: Michael Holland, DOB 11/22/1967, of Valdez was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Theft by Concealment: A local thrift store reported video evidence of someone stealing “quite a bit of clothing”.
5/14 D.A.R.E.: The DARE officer gave another presentation to another class at the High School. Misconduct Involving Weapons: Officers respond to a report of a loaded handgun found in a Junior High bathroom. The Valdez Police Department reports that the student who brought the loaded firearm to Gilson Middle School today has been identified and interviewed. Information and investigation indicates that the student acted alone. Charges will be referred to the Juvenile Probation Officer at the conclusion of the investigation. Traffic Complaint: Officers investigate the report from a woman stating that she was run off the road by a young male driving erratically.
5/15 Welfare Check: A concerned caller requested a welfare check on a local man after receiving suicidal messages. Found Property: A black T-Mobile Samsung phone was turned into the drop box; please contact the police department with further identifiers to claim. Credit Card Fraud: A caller reports fraudulent charges on his credit card from a merchant in Connecticut. Harassment: Officers assisted a citizen with some harassing text messages she was getting from her ex-boyfriend. Criminal Mischief: A caller reports two young boys that are breaking into vehicles at a local apartment complex. Missing Person: A concerned parent called to report her son had not come home after swimming at the pool. The missing child made it home safely minutes after the call was made.
5/16 Trespassing: A local woman was trespassed from the grocery store because she was harassing patrons and employees. Family Issues: Officers respond to a request for assistance in a child custody and divorce issue. Animal Impound: Officers respond to a report of a dog continuously barking for over an hour. The officers discovered that a dog had gotten trapped in the foundation of a home under construction. Arrested: Kevin C. Stevens, DOB 6/8/70, of California was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Driving While License Revoked, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Arrested: Faye Buckau, DOB 9/1/89, of Valdez was arrested for Criminal Trespass at a local grocery store.
5/17 Suspicious Person: A caller was concerned about two men trying to buy a personal vehicle that was parked near her home. The vehicle was not for sale. Suspicious Person: The same two men were reported to be soliciting employment doing auto body repair work.
5/18 Public Assist: Officers supported and participated in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run. Animal Neglect: Officers respond to a report of a dog lying in a driveway and not moving. The concerned caller took the animal to the shelter. The owner was contacted and dog was okay. Hunting: A citation for Hunting Where Prohibited was issued to an individual that shot a bear out near the gun range. Harassment: Officers investigate the report of harassment by an angry neighbor. The angry neighbor was interviewed and then trespassed from the caller’s residence.
Family Issues: Officers respond to a request for assistance in a domestic situation with an ex-girlfriend and the new girlfriend.
5/19 Fish and Game: Three different calls about three different eagles were received and investigated. Abandoned Vehicle: A vehicle was reported abandoned in a Valdez city lot. The owner was contacted and he is waiting for a part to be flown in.

On May 16 at 11:05 am EMS personnel assisted the medevac team transport a man from Providence Valdez Medical Center to the airport for a flight to Anchorage for further treatment.
On May 16 at 12:00 pm EMS personnel assisted the hospital staff in transporting a female patient to Gulkana to an awaiting aircraft for a flight to Anchorage for further treatment.
On May 17 at 1:09 pm EMS personnel responded to a 911 call for a man that was ill. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further treatment.
On May 18 at 11:23 pm Fire personnel responded to alarm activation at the Copper Valley Electric Plant on West Egan. A detector had activated setting off the alarms. The detector was checked and the system reset.
On May 20 at 4:01am EMS personnel responded to a resident where a lady had hit her spouse. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further treatment.
On May 20 at 5:44 am EMS personnel responded to a lady that had a stress attack. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center for further treatment.
