PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF June 22 - 28, 2015
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Trespassing: A caller requested a former acquaintance be trespassed from his apartment after he demanded to pay him money that he didn’t believe he owed. An officer notified the subject of the trespass without any further issues.
Bear Incident: A black bear was reportedly in a residential area. The Community Safety Officer was unable to locate the bear but informed neighborhood residents as a safety precaution.
Traffic Hazard: The City of Valdez requested officers inform homeowners that basketball hoops need to remain out of city streets.
Harassment: A caller reported an individual was harassing a young women sitting on a public bench reading a book. Officer’s made contact with the subject and advised him to move along, to which he complied.
Bear Incident: A cinnamon sow with two cubs were reportedly walking alongside the highway impeding traffic. Upon the Animal Control Officer’s arrival the bears had moved on and the vehicles had left the area.
Embezzlement: A local business notified VPD they were investigating a recent embezzlement incident.
Traffic Hazard: An Arctic Cat side by side was reportedly travelling at an excessive rate of speed alongside the highway creating a significant amount of dust and kicking up gravel that caused a chip to the caller’s windshield. Officers were unable to locate anyone matching the description given.
Medical Assistance: Officers assisted medical personnel with a special needs individual who had fallen and could not get back up.
Arrested: Paul T. Selanoff, DOB 06/28/1952, of Valdez was arrested on the charges of Domestic Assault in the Fourth Degree and Interfering With the Report of A Domestic Violence Crime.
Animal at Large: A dog and a cat were reportedly running loose in the parking lot of a local business. The Animal Control Officer returned the animals to their owner residing in a residence nearby, and advised them of the city’s animal ordinance.
Public Assistance: An officer escorted an individual and their truck back to their residence after it began having mechanical issues alongside the roadway.
MICS Marijuana: Multiple juveniles were reportedly smoking marijuana under a nearby bridge. Officers contacted several individuals matching the description given in the area that didn’t appear to be under the influence of marijuana, but encouraged them to make smart choices.
Agency Assistance: An officer accompanied an Alaska Children’s Services employee to a residence while they investigated a report of child abuse.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on an individual who had threatened self harm. Officer’s made contact with the individual who was determined to be fine.
Animal Impound: A dog was impounded after it had reportedly been barking outside of a residence for several hours, and no one appeared to be home.
Found Property: A Small polka dotted wallet was found. Please call the Police Department with descriptors to claim.
Oil Spill: Approximately 10 gallons of crude oil was reportedly spilled in a tank fill area.
Animal Impound: A black lab was impounded after it was reportedly running around a residential area.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on an individual after a local business owner arrived at their house for requested services and no one came to the door. Officer’s made contact with the individual who stated she was fine.
Animal Neglect: A caller requested that an officer check on a dog that had been left in an unoccupied vehicle for more than an hour. The Animal Control Officer located the dog in the vehicle with the windows rolled down. The owner was then contacted who stated they were riding bikes on a trail nearby and would be back to the trailhead shortly.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested after an individual reportedly made threatening statements to harm themselves and others. Officers contacted the individual who appeared to be in good spirits and claimed the accusations made were false.
MICS Marijuana: A caller reported two individuals were smoking marijuana outside of a residence. Officer’s contacted both individuals who advised them they had to smoke inside.
Animal Impound: A golden retriever was impounded after it was found running around the parking lot of a local business.
Bear Incident: A Cinnamon sow and cubs were reportedly causing a disturbance. An officer contacted the caller and scared the bears out of the area.
Noise Disturbance: A caller reported an individual was operating a loud excavator after allowed hours. Officer’s contacted the subject who stated he would be shutting down for the night.
Noise Disturbance: A caller reported a possible mental individual yelling while hidden in the bushes. Officers made contact with the individual, and convinced her to go back to her residence without further issues.
Animal Cruelty: A concerned caller reported men with suitcases were attempting to capture local bunnies while claiming they were taking them to islands that don’t have bunnies. Officers were unable to locate any wildlife exporters, or bunnies in the area.
Bear Incident: A bear reportedly got into trash cans that were left at the end of a driveway. An officer cleaned up the garbage and it was forwarded on to the Animal Control Officer.
Medical Assistance: Officers assisted medical personnel with a patient possibly having a heart attack.
Criminal Mischief: A beer bottle was reportedly thrown through the back of a company truck window sometime throughout the night. This case is currently under investigation.
Harassment: A caller reported her ex-husband’s, ex-wife was videotaping her against her will. Officer’s contacted the subject who stated she was frightened by the individual, and requested her to be trespassed from her place of employment and residence. The caller was then notified of the trespass.
Intoxicated Pedestrian: A caller reported an intoxicated male was stumbling around a local businesses property, before passing out on the side of the building. Upon officer’s arrival, the individual had already left the area and was later found in a nearby apartment. Medical personnel were then requested to provide treatment.
Civil Dispute: An individual requested to speak to an officer after he drove over a pot hole in a business parking lot which he claimed caused damage to his vehicle, and the business was not willing to pay for it. He was advised by officers it was considered a civil issue and to contact his insurance company.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested for an employee after they hadn’t shown up to work for several days. Officer’s contacted the individual’s room mate who stated his employment situation had changed recently and the owner had yet to be notified.
Bicycle Theft: A brand new bicycle was reported stolen from a bike rack outside of a local business. The bike was later found in the possession of another individual, who claimed he had found the bike outside of his residence. It was then returned to the rightful owner.
Found Property: A silver watch was found. Please call the Police Department with descriptors to claim.
Medical Assistance: Police assisted medical personnel with a male who had severely cut his arm with a chop saw.
Remand: Faye N. Buckau, DOB 09/01/1989, of Valdez, was remanded after her third party was no longer able to be her custodian. Subsequently, Buckau was charged with Assault in the fourth degree against a Public Safety Technician at the Valdez Jail, and Violating Conditions of Release.
Suspicious Person: A local facility reported an individual was looking through the windows with binoculars from a vehicle in the parking lot. Employees then looked back at him with their binoculars and he drove away. Officers were unable to make contact with anyone matching the description given.
Animal Bite: An individual was reportedly bitten by their Chihuahua, and was being treated by medical personnel. The case was forwarded on to the Animal Control Officer.
Criminal Mischief: Faye N. Buckau, DOB 09/01/1989, of Valdez was charged with Assault in the Fourth Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fifth Degree, and two counts of Violating Conditions of Release after damaging property while in custody at the Valdez Jail.
Welfare Check: An individual requested assistance checking his blood sugar after feeling disoriented and confused. Upon officer’s arrival, EMS was requested to provide medical attention.
NVOL: Jocelyn S. Farris, DOB 12/14/1965, of Valdez, was charged with Driving without a Valid License during a routine traffic stop.
Arson: A snow machine was reportedly engulfed in flames alongside the highway.
Arrested: Antonio Delmonte Jr, DOB 09/21/1982, of Valdez, was arrested on the charge of Driving under the Influence after providing a BrAC of .114.
Trespassing: An individual was trespassed from a local facility after being belligerent and acting hostile toward employees.
Bar Disturbance: The owner of a local bar reported an intoxicated male came out of the establishment and threw a trash can against the exterior wall, causing trash to fly all over the parking lot. Officers were unable to locate anyone matching the description given.
Suspicious Person: A caller reported a male was soliciting sexual favors at the end of Dock Point Trail. Officers contacted the individual who was then trespassed from the area.
DWLR: Christian C. McGee, DOB 07/12/1979, of Valdez, was Summonsed for Driving while License Cancelled.
MIP/MIC: Ethan G. Barsketis, DOB 09/16/1995, of Utah, was issued a citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol after providing a BrAC of .186.
Animal Info: The Community Safety Officer was requested to remove two ground squirrels out of an individual’s vehicle. The squirrels were then released back into the wild.
Noise Disturbance: A caller reported loud music coming from a residence nearby. Officer’s made contact with an individual who agreed to turn the music down for the night.
Intoxicated Pedestrian: An unclothed, intoxicated male reportedly jumped off of the John Kelsey Dock into the water. Upon Officer’s arrival, the individual was out of the water, and headed on his way.
Arrested: Michael I. Brizendine, DOB 02/04/1993, of Homer, was arrested on the charge of Domestic Violence Criminal Mischief in the Fifth Degree.
Lost Property: A brown leather wallet was reportedly lost in the Valdez area. If found, please turn it in to the Police Department.
ATV: A four-wheeler was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed alongside the highway. Officers were unable to locate an ATV matching the description given. Public Assistance: An officer assisted an individual jump start their vehicle after dispatch received a call from their insurance company.
Vehicle Theft: An intoxicated caller reported their vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of a local bar. Minutes later, the vehicle was located in the same lot it was reported stolen from. Officers contacted the caller and informed him the vehicle was not stolen, and still in the spot he left it at.
Arrested: After dispatch received multiple calls reporting an intoxicated driver, Brian L. Cox, DOB 06/09/1970, of Valdez, was arrested on the charges of Driving Under the Influence and Reckless Driving after providing a BrAC of .127.
