PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF December 8 – December 14, 2014
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Reckless Endangerment: A driver was contacted for driving with her child on her lap after numerous complaints from concerned motorists. The driver was issued a warning for child safety.
Information: A 10 page manifesto was sent to the Valdez Police Department from an anonymous individual. The manifesto concerned certain “world citizens” that are supposedly being held hostage underground.
Theft Other: A caller reported a theft of heating fuel from a private residence. The case is under investigation.
12/9 Welfare Check: A bartender from a local bar requested a welfare check on an individual passed out on the sidewalk. The officers gave the individual a ride home.
12/10 Reckless Driving: Officers responded to a report of a truck passing another vehicle and driving recklessly. The truck was never found.
Possible Intoxicated Driver: Officers responded to a report of a vehicle swerving, driving very slow and turning in front of oncoming traffic. The officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Animal Noise: An individual reported that his neighbor’s dogs were continuously barking. The officers responded and heard no barking.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was initiated after a concerned caller stated her son was upset, intoxicated and on prescription drugs. She was concerned he might hurt himself or someone else.
Lost Property: A brown leather wallet was reported lost at the Safeway parking lot. If you have found this item, please turn it into the Police Department.
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a truck “flying “out of the high school parking lot. Officers contacted the driver and the individual stated he accidently gave too much gas coming out of parking lot.
Welfare Check: A caller requested a welfare check on her “fiance” that she met online, but never in person. She has been willingly sending money to a bank account for her “fiance” and he is not answering his phone. Officers left a voicemail for him.
Arrested: Jeramiah C. Kirkland, DOB: 1/16/92, of Valdez was arrested on an
Outstanding bench warrant for Failure to Appear for calendar call.
Possible Intoxicated Driver: A concerned caller reported that her son was intoxicated and driving into town. Officers responded and found the suspect vehicle parked and unoccupied. The officers then contacted the suspect driver, determined his emotional well being and transported him to the counseling center for “crisis evaluation”.
Neighbor Issues: An officer contacted two disputing neighbors over an ongoing feud about money owed for marijuana and other “stuff”. The officer advised the two parties about civil remedies, and cautioned them to not escalate the situation.
Welfare Check: After a report from the local cab company, officers contacted an intoxicated individual sitting in a snow bank. The individual was warned for Disorderly Conduct and given a ride to his residence.
MVA Hit & Run: A caller reported that his vehicle had been hit in the Downtown B&B parking lot. This case is under investigation. Welfare Check: Officers responded to a private residence for a welfare check on an alleged distraught individual. Nobody was home, and all parties were reported at a friend’s residence, and just fine.
Welfare Check: After a possible cell phone 911 hang-up, a welfare check was initiated. It was discovered that the call was just an accident.
Arrested: Jeremy Casillas, DOB: 2/29/1984, of Valdez was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Driving While License Revoked, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer and Negligent Driving. He was also remanded for violating Felony Probation, with an original charge of Robbery 3rd Degree.

12-9-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request for a male having seizures. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
12-10-14 Valdez Hazmat team responded and investigated a 4000 gallon diesel spill at 48 mile of the Richardson Highway.
12-11-14 Valdez Fire Department responded to an alarm activation at the Valdez Senior Center.
12-12-14 Valdez Fire Department investigated a fire alarm activation. The alarm was reset.
