Police And Fire Report
PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF April 14 - 20, 2014
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Fish & Game: Complainant reported that there were multiple sea otter carcasses lying in front of a residence. Officers contacted the owner of the residence who agreed to remove the two seal and two sea otter carcasses.
Disorderly Conduct: Complainant reported an individual had urinated in the common hallway of an apartment complex. Officers responded and concluded that there had been no urinating.
Disturbance-Noise: Complainant reported loud music coming from a nearby apartment. Officers responded and couldn’t hear any loud music.
Possible Drunk Driver: Complainant reported a vehicle with a male and a female had just left a local business, they both appeared to be intoxicated. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
Disturbance-Other: A local business reported having issues with an individual harassing customers, trying to get people to buy cigarettes and taking pallet jacks and moving them around. Officers made contact with the individual who had already left the business.
04/15 Theft of Property: Complainant reported that someone had gone into their apartment and stole food. Individual stated that he can’t lock the door of his apartment because he had lost his keys and the police hadn’t found them and returned them to him.
Serve Time: William Gittins, DOB 9/27/1986, of Valdez, reported to the Valdez Jail to serve time. Original charge: Violating a DV Protective Order.
04/16 Disturbance-Other: Complainant reported having problems with an individual, claimed the subject was stealing money.
MICS-Marijuana: Complainant reported that three juveniles were smoking marijuana in front of the apartment complex. Complainant stated the juveniles had already left the area.
04/17 Theft of Bicycle: Complainant reported that their blue and silver Trek 4300 bicycle had been stolen from outside the Eagles Hall. Complainant later called to report that the bike had been seen at the high school. The bike was recovered and returned to the owner.
Assist EMS Crew: Officers responded to a medical call to assist EMS.
Reckless Driving: Complainant reported a vehicle had passed several cars on the highway then proceeded to pass the complainant while in a no passing zone. Officers made contact with the driver and issued a citation for reckless driving.
Agency Assist: Valdez Fire Department requested officer assistance.
Animal at Large: Complainant reported that a large Black Lab, being taken outside by a young child, gets off the leash and goes after other dogs in the neighborhood, happens repeatedly.
Agency Assistance: Complainant reported an individual was smoking in a no smoking area of a local business. Employees were uncomfortable approaching the individual, therefore requested an officer. Officer made contact with the individual who was waiting for their ride.
Traffic Hazard: An officer moved lawn furniture that was in middle of the highway.
ETOH Pedestrian: Complainant reported a possible intoxicated male staggering down the street, putting his hands out trying to get a ride. Officers made contact with individual who had gone back to his residence.
Summons: Jeramiah Kirkland, DOB 1/16/1992, of Valdez was issued a summons for Driving While License Revoked/Suspended.
Traffic Complaint: Complainant reported a black truck passed them in a no passing zone and is tailing other vehicles. Officers made contact with the driver who admitted to the offense and was issued a warning for passing in a no passing zone.
Trespassing: A local business requested an individual be trespassed from the property. Officers contacted the individual and issued a trespass order.
Traffic Complaint: Complainant reported a blue truck was parked in middle of the road with multiple people standing around it. The individuals waved the complainant around them but into oncoming traffic. The vehicle and people were gone upon officer arrival.
MVA-Damage: Complainant reported damage to their vehicle after someone had backed into them at a local business. An officer responded and issued PAR forms.
Welfare Check: A passerby requested a welfare check on a female who was standing on the side of the highway next to a vehicle that appeared to be broken down; the female tried to flag down the complainant. The female was no longer at the vehicle when an officer arrived on scene.
Possible Drunk Driver: Complainant reported being behind a vehicle that was repeatedly swerving over the center line. Complainant reported having to honk their horn multiple times to get the driver back in their lane. Officers made contact with the vehicle that was being driven by an individual that had just received their drivers permit the day before and was getting driving lessons by their parent. No alcohol was found to be present on either individual.
04/18 Animal at Large: Complainant reported a small, black dog in their yard making it hard for them to let their own dog outside. Officers were unable to locate the dog.
Lost Property: Complainant reported that they had lost their wallet sometime in the last three days, that is was lost somewhere in their home.
MVA-Damage: Complainant reported an MVA that had occurred while their vehicle had been parked. PAR forms were issued.
04/19 Serve Time: Danielle Topkok, DOB 8/14/1984, of Valdez, reported to the Valdez Jail to serve time. Original charge: Domestic Assault.
Barking Dog: Complainant reported that a neighbor’s dog had been barking for several hours.
Public Assist: VPD provided escort for a funeral procession.
Animal Bite: Complainant reported that their daughter had been bitten by a neighbor’s dog while playing outside. The owner of the dog was issued a warning for animal at large.
Domestic Assault: Complaint reported that their neighbor may have just been assaulted.
Arrested: Kenneth Arnold, DOB 10/2/1964, of Valdez, was arrested on the charge of DV Assault 4th Degree.
04/20 Warrant Arrest: Justin McCain, DOB 5/21/1986, of Valdez, was arrested on an outstanding Valdez warrant for Failure to Appear. Original Charge: Driving While License Revoked/Suspended.
Traffic Complaint: Complainant reported a vehicle had passed them in a no passing zone and reported that the same vehicle had been seen speeding through the neighborhood on multiple occasions. While officers were looking for the vehicle, another complaint of a possible drunk driver was called in with the same vehicle description. An officer made contact with the vehicle, no alcohol was detected, driver was issued a warning for reckless driving.

4-14-14 to 4-20-14
4-15-14 Valdez Fire Department responded to a report of smoke on Galena Drive. The scene was investigated and the problem was a wood burning stove system.
4-16-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on Iditarod Street. The patient had flu like symptoms. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
4-16-14 Valdez Fire Department responded to investigate a CO leak on Iditarod Street.
4-17-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request at Captain Joe’s. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
4-17-14 Valdez Hazmat team responded to investigate a CO leak on Iditarod Street. The scene was investigated and no leak was found.
4-18-14 Valdez Hazmat team responded to a fuel spill at the Royal Center and Ernesto’s parking lot area.
4-18-14 Valdez EMS career staff and volunteers were on standby with EMS 3 for the Hill Climb event on Thompson Pass.
4-19-14 Valdez EMS transported a patient that needed to be Medivac to Anchorage.
4-19-14 Valdez EMS career staff and volunteers were on standby with EMS 3 for the Hill Climb event on Thompson Pass.
4-19-14 Valdez EMS 3 treated a patient with an eye injury during the Hill Climb event.
4-19-14 Valdez EMS responded to a request for medical assistance on Richardson Highway. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
4-19-14 Valdez EMS responded to an assault. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
