PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
May 11, 2015 – May 17, 2015

 
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
 
05/11
 
Harassment: A caller reported being followed by another vehicle after apologizing for accidentally swerving into the oncoming lane while it was driving toward her. An officer was unable to locate the other vehicle.
 
Fraud: Fraudulent charges on a debit card were reported. The bank was notified and the account was froze.
 
Possible Drunk Driver: A vehicle was reportedly weaving and crossing the fog line multiple times on the highway. Officers contacted the driver of the vehicle and determined they were not impaired.
 
Public Service: VPD officers gave an ALICE presentation to members of City Council.
 
Criminal Mischief: It was reported that multiple individuals were cutting down trees with chainsaws making a path between two subdivisions. Officers located two individuals that were only cutting brush on an existing trail.
 
05/12
 
Parking: A caller reported an occupant sleeping inside of a vehicle that is continuously parked at the Dock Point trailhead. Officers made contact with the owner of the vehicle, after advising them they could not park there, they agreed to move.
 
Animal at Large:  A golden retriever was reportedly running down the Airport runway. The dog was later caught by the caller and taken back to the owner’s residence.

Animal at Large: A dog was reportedly lying in the middle of an intersection. An officer was unable to locate a dog matching the description given in the area.
 
Burglar Alarm: An active burglar alarm was reported in a local building. Upon officers arrival, it was determined the alarm had been set off by construction workers who then reset the alarm.
 
Fraud: A caller reported a male individual came to her residence offering to re-surface their driveway. A business name and phone number were given that came back to a company out of state that claimed the individual did not work for them.
 
Agency Assistance:  Officers assisted EMS personnel with treating the occupants of a single car rollover accident.
 
Arrested:  Michael A. Forselles, DOB 11/16/1985, of Anchorage, was arrested on the charges of Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Endangerment, Driving While License Revoked, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident after providing a BrAC of .206.
 
05/14
 
Animal at Large: A dog was reportedly wandering around a local businesses parking lot. An officer was unable to locate a dog matching the description given in the area.
 
Motor Vehicle Accident: A two vehicle accident in the High School parking lot was reported. Par forms were issued to the driver’s of both vehicles.
 
Motor Vehicle Accident: A vehicle reportedly backed into a boat parked in the Dry Dock parking area of the Small Boat Harbor. The harbormaster made contact with the owner of the vessel to inform them of the accident.
 
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported following a vehicle drifting into the oncoming lane multiple times while on the highway. Officers were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description given.
 
 
 
05/15
 
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported an individual riding a dirt bike on the bike path threatened to run him off of the path when he advised him no motorized vehicles were permitted on it. Officers were unable to locate a bike matching the description given.
 
Criminal Mischief: A caller reported an individual cutting down trees around a trail entrance. Officers contacted two individuals in the area and advised them a state permit was needed to cut wood in that area.
 
Traffic Complaint: A four-wheeler was reportedly driving down the park strip. Officers were unable to locate a four-wheeler matching the description given.
 
 Fraud: An individual requested to speak to an officer about a call she received from someone claiming to be from the IRS. An officer advised her not to answer any more calls from that number.
 
Animal Impound: A dog was taken to the Animal Shelter after it had reportedly been barking outside for approximately three hours and officers were unable to make contact with anyone at the residence.
 
05/16
 
MIP/MIC: John D. Sanders, DOB 03/12/1996, of Slana, was issued a citation for Minor Consuming Alcohol.
 
Arrested: Brandon L. Madrid, DOB 12/25/1988, of Anchorage, was arrested on the charge of Violating Conditions of Release.
 
Agency Assistance: Officers assisted EMS personnel with a non coherent female.
 
Public Service: VPD personnel participated in the annual Torch Run.
 
Harassment: A caller reported a family member had been threatened by a possible former acquaintance. This case is currently under investigation.
 
Animal at Large: A yellow lab was reportedly running loose in a residential area. The ACO returned the dog to the owner at a nearby residence.
 
Possible Drunk Driver: A vehicle was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the roadway. Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle who stated they swerved while bending down to pick up a lit cigarette off of the floor.
 
05/17
 
MIP/MIC: Devin J. Freitag, DOB 05/08/1995, of Eagle River, Austin M. Rake, DOB 09/06/1995, of Valdez, and two juveniles were issued citations for Minor Consuming Alcohol.
 
Disturbance: A caller reported multiple intoxicated individuals were outside of an apartment building possibly getting into a physical altercation. An officer made contact with the individuals who agreed to go inside without further issues.
 
Domestic Assault No Arrest: A caller reported he had been assaulted by his spouse. Upon officer’s investigation the parties were separated.
 
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a vehicle passed him on the ride side of the roadway. Officers located and issued a citation to the driver of the vehicle.
 
Domestic Assault No Arrest: A hotel front desk clerk reported an assault had occurred between the parties staying in a hotel room. Upon officer’s investigation the parties were separated for the night.

5-11-15 to 5-17-15
 
5-13-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual at the Valdez Middle School having difficulty breathy. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.       

5-13-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.

5-15-15 Valdez EMS responded to a single car accident on Airport Road involving 2 individuals. One individual was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center. The other individual refused treated and transportation.

5-14-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual having respiratory issues. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.   

5-14-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-14-15 Valdez EMS responded to the City Jail for an inmate needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene. No transportation was needed.

5-14-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical welfare check in Area 1.
5-15-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request. 

5-16-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

5-17-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing assistance.

5-17-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene, no transportation was needed.

5-17-15 Valdez Fire responded to a fire call on Chalet Drive. After investigation, the call was a controlled burn by the home owner.
