PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
July 27 – Aug 2, 2015

 
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
 
 
7/27
 
Disorderly Conduct:  Officers were requested to assist with a disgruntled deck hand that needed to be escorted off of a boat.  The subject was given a disorderly conduct warning and was trespassed from the boat and Peterpan Seafoods.
 
Lost Property:  A person called in to report that they lost their keys over the weekend.  If found please turn into the Police Department.
 
Agency Assistance:  A man reported that he is stuck in the sound past the narrows by a radar tower.  His radio is not working and wanted to reach the coastguard.  Dispatch lost phone contact and forwarded all information to the United States Coast Guard.
 
Abandoned Vehicle:  A report of a Harley motorcycle parked at the pullout across from Bridal Veil since Sunday afternoon was received.  There are no saddlebags or anything on the Bike and caller is concerned that the rider is lost or injured up in the canyon somewhere.   An Officer responded to the area and patrolled thru the canyon but the motorcycle was no longer in the area.
 
Welfare Check:  A report of a male individual who fell in the grass after leaving the Village Pharmacy and crossing the street was received. An Officer assisted the EMS team.
 
Fish & Game:  A report of an eagle in distress was received.  Community Service Officer responded to the area but did not find an eagle.
 
Civil Problem/Dispute:  A man reported his captain fired him from the boat he was working on and he is now stranded in Valdez.  He claimed that according to the Jones Act the captain is ordered to take him back to the point of hire.  An Officer explained to the man that this is a civil issue.
 
Disturbance Other:  A request for assistance to remove a violent former employee was received.  An Officer responded to the business and trespass the person who then left willingly.
 
Camping Prohibited Area:  While on patrol the Community Service Officer informed an RV owner of the camping ordinance by leaving a door hanger on the RV.
 
Camping Prohibited Area:  The Community Service Officer contacted a motor home under the Mineral Creek Bridge, and informed them of the camping ordinance.
 
Litter, Pollution, Public Health:  A report of an individual losing trash out of the back of his truck was received.  An Officer located the vehicle, subject threw away the trash and he was issued a warning for unsecured load.
 
Agency Assistance:  A report of a fire at the electrical box with flames visible was received.  An Officer assisted the Fire Department.

Assist EMS Crew:  An Officer assisted the EMS crew for a person who would not wake up.
 
MICS Marijuana:  While on patrol an Officer observed a driver slumped over the steering wheel in a parking lot.  After investigating the Officer impounded the vehicle.
 
Public Speaking/Appearance:  An Officer gave the Summer Fun Campers a tour of the Police Department.
 
Violate Conditions of Release:  Dewey, Nadezda Marie, DOB 09/01/88, of Chugiak was turned in by Third Party for Violating Conditions of Release by consuming alcohol, PBT .273 at the time of booking.  Original charges Violate Conditions-Misdemeanor.
 
MVA- H & R:   A person called to report that their car was hit while they were hiking a trail at 19 mile.  An Officer responded to the area to investigate, if anyone has information about this please contact the Police Department.
 
Traffic Complaint:  A report of large rocks coming out of the back of a truck in the outbound lane of the Richardson that were impeding traffic was received.  Dispatch passed the information on to Department of Transportation.
 
Animal Impound:  A report of a pit bill running loose in the park by the cabins was received.  Animal Control Officer responded, captured the dog and notified the owner who will pick it up before the Animal shelter closes.
 
Abandoned Vehicle:  A report of an abandoned vehicle off of Dump road with the windows rolled down, suit cases open on the ground nearby and money stashed in the dash was received.  An Officer responded to the area to investigate and found no indication of alcohol or drugs.
 
ATV:  While on patrol an Officer contacted a juvenile riding a four wheeler.
 
Animal Information:  A caller reported a dog that had been barking for a while.  An Officer contacted the owner of the dog and the dog was taken inside.

MVA-D:  Report damage to Police Vehicle – front bumper damage by the grill- due to too steep a bank while responding to a medical call.
 
Bear Related Call:  An Officer was requested to shoot a problem bear with bean bags to shoo it away from their worksite.  An Officer responded to the area but the bear had left the area.
 
Disturbance Other:  A report of a beeping noise coming from Hermon Hutchens Elementary School was reported.  An Officer responded but there was no beeping noise at the school.  Maintenance workers were working outside.  Complainant called back from the Student drop off and stated there was a man lift beeping noisily with no one around.  He turned the key off and the beeping stopped.
 
Animal At Large:  A report of a German shepherd at large – chasing cars and kids on skateboards was received.  An Officer responded to the area but the animal was not in the area.
 
Traffic Complaint:  A person reported a reckless driver in a gray van who almost hit 2 cars.  An Officer spoke to the complainant and the driver of the vehicle and issued a warning for negligent driving.
 
Traffic Hazard:  A tire blew out from heavy equipment heading inbound on the Richardson highway which left debris all over the road causing a traffic hazard.  An Officer responded to the area but found no debris.
 
Traffic Hazard:  A report of workers on the shoulder of the roadway at 4-5 mile with no signs.   A driver locked up his breaks to avoid hitting them. An Officer responded to the area and advised the workers to use proper signage.
 
Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Service Officer contacted an RV about camping and advised them to camp in the proper areas.
 
Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Service Officer contacted three RV’s in the dry dock area and advised them of the camping ordinances.
 
Agency Assistance:  An Officer assisted the Fire department on a strange odor coming from a heater that had gotten too hot.
 
Fireworks: A report of someone lighting off mortars behind the Landsharks was received.  An Officer responded to the area but there was no one shooting fireworks.  He continued to drive around the area.
 
 
7/30
 
Strange Activity:  A caller reported 5 Juveniles (4 males and 1 female approximately 13-16 years of age) crawled out of the window of an older cream colored Comfort travel trailer.  An Officer responded and spoke with the owner of the trailer who state it was probably kids to spend the night with his kids.  Everything was fine.
 
Civil Problem/Dispute:  A person requested to speak with an officer about a civil matter.  An Officer spoke with her and advised her to go to the court.
 
Disturbance Noise:  A caller reported loud music coming from somewhere.  An Officer responded to the area and spoke with an individual with his garage open and blasting music.  He agreed to turn the music down or shut the garage.
 
Camping Prohibited Area:  A Community Service Officer left door hangars for three RV’s parked in the dry dock area.
 
7/31
 
Bear Related Calls:  Hikers reported seeing a large brown bear while hiking the goat trail.  They made loud noises to scare the bear away – it kept coming back.  They vacated the area.  The Animal Control Officer posted signs at both ends of the goat trail warning of bears in the area.
 
Burglary Nonresidential:  A caller reported that someone tried to gain access through the kitchen door.  This case is currently under investigation.
 
Animal At Large:  A caller reported that she believed she hit a small white dog with her car.  Upon going back, the dog was gone but she was still concerned it might have been hit.  The Animal Control Officer responded to the area to look for the dog.  No injured dog was found.
 
Animal At Large:  A dog got out of a vehicle and attacked a dog that was chained up at a residence.  The Animal Control Officer placed the dog that attacked under in house quarantine.
 
Traffic Complaint:  A report of two kids on a tiny red go cart with 6” wheels driving around was received.  Complainant was afraid they’d get hit by a car.  An Officer responded to the area but the go cart could not be located.
 
Stop FI:  While on patrol an Officer saw a vehicle parked on the sidewalk.  He contacted the registered owner and they stated they will move it off the bike path.
 
Information Report:  A caller reported two boys standing on the pavilion at the Civic Center.  He was concerned that they may fall off and the City would be liable.  An Officer responded to the area but the boys had already left the area.
 
Family-Neighbor Fights:  Family issues, two parents had a disagreement on the custody of a child.  An Officer arrived on scene to talk with the parties and they came to an agreement.  One parent was trespassed from the in-law’s residence.
 
Reckless Driving:  A caller reported a blue Pontiac with a female driver all over the road.   An Officer responded to the area but the vehicle had already left the area.
 
ATV:  A caller reported Motor bikes speeding thru the area.  An Officer responded to the area but at that time there were no ATV’s or Motor bikes.  Another Officer also patrolled the area but could not locate any motor bikes or ATV’s.
 
Criminal Mischief:   A caller reported six or seven boys ,  13-14 years old shaking an outhouse in the park strip.   An Officer responded to the area and contacted the boys.  No damage done and they will stop.
 
Violate Conditions of Release:  A caller reported an individual walking around the street party with a beer in his hand and the individual is on conditions to not be around alcohol.  An Officer responded to the area and spoke to someone that stated he left about thirty minutes ago.
 
Violate Conditions of Release:  Holland, Michael Gallagher, DOB 11/22/1967 of Valdez was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release – Misdemeanor.
 
Warrant Arrest:  Dorgan, Evelynn Marie, DOB 08/18/1969 of Anchorage, was arrested for Bench Warrant Failure to appear for arraignment original charges of DWLR/DWLS and VCOR.
 
Warrant Arrest: Violett, Vincent Barron, DOB 8/23/84 of Valdez was arrested for Civil Bench Warrant Failure to appear for Order to Show Cause Hearing.
 
Warrant Arrest: Marchant, Steven Oran, DOB 8/3/1982 of Valdez was released on Bail for Civil Bench Warrant Failure to appear for Order to Show Cause Hearing.
 
Disturbance Bar:  A Caller reported a fight at the bar.  Officers responded to the bar but the individual had left on foot.  Officers drove around the area but the individual could not be located with the description given.
 
8/01
 
Disturbance Bar:  A caller reported a fight at the bar.  Officers responded to the bar, the fight had broken up and everyone was leaving the bar for the night.
 
Theft Vehicle:   A man reported his truck stolen from the parking lot of a local business.  Officers responded to the area and spoke with the individual; the truck was later located in a different parking lot and locked up. No further assistance was needed.
 
ETOH Pedestrian:  While on patrol an Officer saw a man passed out in the road.  The Officer assisted the man to his residence.
 
Public Speaking/Appearance:  Officers assisted with traffic control for the Copper Valley Telephone Coop triathlon.
 
Citizen Assist:  A caller reported having water problems; he did not have enough cooling water at low tide and requested permission to use a fire hydrant.  Dispatch contacted the water/sewer personnel on call; they contacted the caller about the water problem.
 
Lost Property:  A caller reported she lost her silver color ring with infinity signs all over it and two birthstones in the middle.  The ring was lost in the Harbor Master Office bathrooms, if found please return to the Police Department.
 
Agency Assistance:  A report of a white and red boat honking horns and trying to get attention was reported by the hatchery.  Dispatch contacted the MSO Valdez and passed the information on to them to handle.
 
Theft of Bicycle:  A report of a Blue Specialized bicycle stolen from the base of water tower at blueberry road was reported.  If found please turn into the Police Department.
 
Disturbance Other:  Callers reported a man being rowdy and loud who would not leave the airport.  Officers responded to the airport and spoke with the subject who was transported to a hotel for the evening.
 
Bear Related Calls:  A caller reported some tourist won’t get out of the way of a Bear with cubs.  An Officer responded to the area but the bears had already left.
 
Found Property:  A baggie containing a driver’s license, debit card, Safeway card and misc paperwork was turned into the Police Department.  If you have lost these items please call the Police Department to claim.
 
Suspicious Person:  A caller reported a young girl walking down the street and a minivan stopped by her and a man got out and started walking with her.  An Officer responded and found that Dad was walking his daughter home.
 
Animal At Large:  A report of a black lab running loose on River Drive was reported.    An Officer drove around the area but could not find any loose dogs.
 
Trespassing:   A local business requested an individual be trespassed from all properties.   An Officer spoke with the business owner and later located the individual and advised him of his trespass.
 
Assault with a Weapon:  A man reported two young men pulled a fillet knife on him as he was walking back from a local restaurant.  An Officer spoke with the individual and this case is under investigation.
 
General Contact:  An individual came to the Police Department to talk to an Officer about guns.
 
Sounds of Shots Fired:  A caller reports hearing explosions.  Officers responded to the area to find a man shooting fireworks off on his property.
 
Possible Drunk Driver:  A caller reported a red Subaru speeding up, slowing down and swerving on the highway.  An Officer responded to the area and found the vehicle, negative alcohol.
 
Disturbance Noise:   A caller reported the hoosegow is too loud with base.  An Officer contacted the hoosegow and they were shutting down for the night.
 
Lost Property:  A caller reported that an I-Phone 5 was stolen from Easy Freeze during the night.  Anyone with information regarding this is encouraged to call the Police Department.
 
8/02
 
Disturbance Noise:  A caller reported that his neighbors are having a party and the base is too loud.  An Officer responded and contacted the parties involved, it was agreed that the music would be turned down for the night.
 
Agency Assistance:  A caller reported a group of young people needing assistance at Willow Lake MP 86.   Dispatch passed the information on to MATCOM.
 
Burglary Nonresidential:  A Burglar alarm was called in by the security alarm company.   Officers responded to the business to find a door open.   They secured the door after they found out that no one was inside.  Further inspection revealed that an employee had let himself in and set off the alarm.
 
Civil Problem/Dispute:  A caller requested to speak to an Officer about his landlord.  An Officer spoke to the caller and advised him that this was a civil matter.
 
Reckless Driving:  A report of a boat cutting off another boat by sawmill bay, narrowly avoiding a collision by putting his boat into reverse was reported. The skiff man held both hands together and pointed at the vessel like he was holding a handgun.  No one could definitely say for sure that the man had a gun.  An Officer spoke to the complainant regarding this issue.
 
Barking Dog:  A report of a continuous barking dog in an apartment with an open window was received.  A Community Service Officer left a door hanger notifying the owner that the dog needed to be kept in a way as to not make a disturbance.
 
ATV:  A caller reported people speeding down Atigun to the point that is was dangerous for people to walk.  An Officer responded to the area and did not find any traffic but patrolled the area for awhile.
 
Fish & Game:  A report of tourists catching fish by the weir and smashing them against the rocks was received.  An Officer responded to find three French tourists who did not know how to remove the hooks but had valid fishing licenses.
 
Bear Related Calls:  A report of tourist chasing a black bear was received.  A Community Service Officer responded to the area but the bear and tourists where no longer in the area.
 
Sound of Shots Fired:  Report of hearing fireworks or gunshots was received.  An Officer responded to the area but did not hear any fireworks or loud noises.
 
Criminal Mischief:  A report of seven kids beating on the outhouse at the park was received.  An Officer responded and contacted the group of kids.  They were playing in the park and admitted to pounding on the outhouse.  They were messing with the guy using the outhouse.  They didn’t damage anything and they were sent on their way.
 
ATV:  A report of someone leaving Safeway at a high speed on an ATV was received.  Headed outbound on the Richardson with 2 kids on the 4 wheeler, one did not have a helmet on.  An Officer responded and stopped the 4 wheeler by Aleutian Village, contacted the individual and informed him of the ATV laws.
 
Missing Person:  A Father from Glennallen called to report his daughter was overdue from a road trip.  She was driving to Thompson Pass and had last been heard from at 7:45 stating she was on her way home.  The daughter called later to report she was fine her phone had died.

7-27-15 to 8-2-15

7-27-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance in Area 1. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

7-27-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire call in Area 1. After investigation of the area, it seemed to be an electrical fire.     

7-28-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.   

7-29-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Boardroom. No fire was found after investigating the area.
