Police Report

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Alarm – Panic: Response to a panic alarm was cancelled after it was determined the alarm had been set off by mistake.
Harassment: A caller reported being telephonically harassed.
Animal Neglect: The Animal Control Officer is checking into allegations of animal neglect involving a dog.
Welfare Check: Officers conducted a welfare check following a 911 call and located a baby playing with a phone.
Animal at Large: A short haired Pit-bull dog was reported at large and acting aggressive towards other dogs being walked in the area.
Arrested: Katrina Priscilla Trefon, DOB 04/21/1987, of Valdez, was arrested on the charge of Violating Conditions of Release on an original charge of Criminal Mischief 4th Degree. Trefon pled not guilty and is currently in custody until bail is posted in the amount of a $2000 performance bond or 3rd Party Custodian.
Animal Impound: A yellow Labrador dog was brought to the Animal Shelter and impounded until the owner could be located after the dog followed a pedestrian home.
Open Door: Officers assisted in securing the door on a residence after a neighbor reported the owners weren’t home and the door had been blown wide open by the wind.
ETOH Pedestrian: Multiple callers reported a possibly intoxicated male wearing one shoe and lying in the middle of Pioneer Street. Officers made contact with the individual who was inebriated and gave him a ride to his residence.
Welfare Check: VPD was contacted to conduct a welfare check on a juvenile who had made suicidal statements to acquaintances.
Fraud Check/Cash: A complainant reported he had been contacted with instructions to purchase Wal-Mart or Safeway cash cards as a means of paying a fine stemming from missing jury duty. He was told he had a two hour time limit or would be arrested. If anyone else receives similar calls please report  to VPD as this is a scam.
Possible Intoxicated Driver: Officers contacted the driver of a vehicle reported as displaying intoxicated behavior and driving. Officers determined the driver was not impaired.
Disturb Noise: Officers contacted the resident of an apartment following noise complaints from the neighbors. He agreed to turn the music down.
Disturb Noise: Officers investigated a noise complaint and determined the music was coming from a bar and was within acceptable noise levels.
Information: A caller reported seeing lights or a possible bonfire on Glacier Haul Road. Officers responded to the area and found multiple parked vehicles with occupants enjoying the display of northern lights. No fires were found.
Arrested: Ricky Paul McCain, DOB 11/09/1962, of Valdez, was arrested on the charge of Driving under the Influence. McCain plead out at his arraignment and was given a delayed remand date.
Traffic Complaint: Two trucks were reported racing on Dayville Road and going in excess of 100 mph. Responding Officers were unable to locate the vehicles.
Trespassed: Officers contacted an individual and verbally trespassed him for the day from a local business after an employee reported that his behavior was intimidating.
Fraud: A caller reported fraudulent charges on their credit card.
ETOH Pedestrian: An intoxicated male was reported slumped over and possibly unconscious on the steps of a drinking establishment. Officers made contact; the individual was intoxicated but able to care for himself and he made his way home.
ETOH Pedestrian: Officers made contact with an intoxicated pedestrian. He was fine and made his way home.
Criminal Mischief: The rear window of a vehicle was reported broken while the owner was briefly inside a local residence. Anyone with any information, please call the VPD.
ETOH Pedestrian: The manager of a local business reported an intoxicated individual sitting outside and requested Officers check on his welfare. Officers determined the individual was no more impaired than usual.

4-7-14 to 4-13-14

4-8-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

4-9-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request. The patient was treated and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

4-9-14 Valdez EMS assisted transportation for a patient arriving on a Ravn Alaska airlines flight to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

4-10-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request. The patient was treated and transported.

4-12-14 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the SERVS warehouse on Loop Road. After investigation of the area the fire personnel declared a false alarm.

4-13-14 Valdez Hazmat team responded to a call to investigate a CO leak on River Drive. Low levels of CO were present. A motor vehicle that was turned on while being worked on in a closed door garage was the reason for the CO. The garage door was opened and aired out.   

4-13-14 Valdez Hazmat team responded to a call to investigate a CO leak on Chena Street. Low levels of CO were present. The team found the problem with a faulty oven.
