PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF July 14 - 20, 2014
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Fireworks: A caller reported someone lighting off fireworks at Dock Point. Officers contacted one individual who had been setting off fireworks by the small boat harbor and requested she desist.
Welfare Check: Officers made contact with an individual laying in the street on Kobuk Drive. He was taking a break after hurting his leg, but eventually made his way home unassisted.
Arrested: Ambacher, Keith Gilbert, DOB 02/17/1981, of Wasilla, was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release – Felony, Violating Conditions of Release – Misdemeanor, Driving under the Influence, Breath Test Refusal and Reckless Driving.
Harassment: A local business owner reported an ex-employee was slandering their business’ name and harassing other current employee’s. Officers trespassed the individual from the property.
Disturbance – Noise: RV campers complained about the noise level coming from a local bar the previous evening.
Camping: Officers advised some people camping at the Goldfield that the area is not a camping spot.
Assault Information: A caller reported two men had just gotten into a physical altercation in a parking lot over an air filter. Officers contacted both individuals, trespassed them from each other’s property and advised one on how to contact the court to request a Domestic Violence Protective Order.
Serve Time: William Elliot Marr, DOB 10/05/1968, of Valdez, reported to the Valdez Jail to serve 25 days for the charge of Driving under the Influence.
Lost Property: A black Apple IPOD was reported lost somewhere in the Valdez area. If found, please drop off at the VPD.
Harassment: A disgruntled ex-girlfriend was advised to discontinue sending harassing messages to the current girlfriend. She was also advised to stop messaging all females who lived in the same area with the same first name as the current girlfriend.
Disturbance – Noise: Dispatch received multiple calls complaining of fireworks and/or gunshots around town. Officers contacted a group of individuals at Dock Point who agreed they wouldn’t set off any more fireworks.
Concealment: Safeway detained an individual who had attempted to steal some ice cream. Officers trespassed him from the premises.
Animal at Large: A nonresident lost her dog while out hiking and a man who found the dog reportedly refused to give it back. When Officers located the individual, he had already given the animal back to the owner.
Boating Accident – Hit & Run: The owner of a boat on Dock ‘F’ reported someone hit the boat sometime the previous week causing damage to prop and lower unit. If you have any information, please call VPD.
Found Property: A brown leather wallet containing various cards and a British Columbia ID was found in the Robe Lake parking area. Please call with identifiers to claim.
Bear Incident: A complainant stated there was a bear on their front porch eating the trash. Officers responded, but the bear had moved on. A second complaint was called in involving the same bear, same porch and same trash. The occupant offered to move the trash to the back porch, but Officers advised to dispose of it or take inside the residence.
Harassment: A complainant reported that her ex-boyfriend was calling various businesses, attorneys and her church and slandering her reputation. Officers contacted the individual who denied any contact with her in several months. Theft of Services: A local gas station reported the driver of a black truck failed to pay for fuel. Anyone with information about this ongoing investigation, please call the VPD.
Loitering: Officers contacted an intoxicated individual sleeping in hotel hallway after the front desk employee reported being unable to awaken him. The individual was not a guest of the hotel so Officers assisted him home to his boat.
Threat: A woman attempting to leave threatening phone messages for an individual misdialed and left a few messages on another unrelated person’s phone. Officers notified the Alaska State Troopers in the area of the subjects’ residence.
Agency Assist: VPD Officers served a summons on Thomas Floyd Stanfield, DOB 07/15/1955, of Valdez.
Found Property: A rifle was found on a trail in the Alphabet Hills off the Denali Highway. Please call with identifiers to claim.
Theft of Services: The driver of a red truck failed to pay for fuel pumped at a local gas station. Please call the VPD with any information regarding this ongoing investigation.
Theft from Boat: An electric reel and a fishing pole were stolen from a boat on G dock. Please contact the VPD with any information about this ongoing investigation.
Theft – Vehicle: A vehicle was reported stolen. This case is currently under investigation.
Theft – Other: The theft of prescription medication was reported to have occurred from a local residence when the resident left the home to walk the dog.
Lost Property: An envelope containing cash and marked ‘Zastro Enterprises’ was reported lost somewhere in the Valdez Area, possibly around NAPA. If found, please turn into the VPD.
Theft from Boat: Two 6’ halibut fishing rods with pen reels were stolen from a boat on dry dock. Please contact the VPD if you have any information on this ongoing investigation.
Theft – Vehicle: A Yamaha ATV was reported stolen from a business sometime the previous evening. Officers located the ATV and returned it to the owner. This case is currently under investigation.
Criminal Mischief: Officers are investigating the anonymous complaint of damage caused to a parked vehicle by a person wielding a skateboard.
Indecent Viewing: A caller reported an unknown man peeping into her window. The caller’s husband chased him off and he left the area on foot.
Bear Incident: Officers placed a live trap in an area where a possible wounded black bear had been reported.
Arrested: Rita Steiner Hamilton, DOB 09/17/1957, of Valdez, was arrested on one count of Assault 4th Degree.
Disturbance – Other: Two male individuals were reported fighting in front of the Man Camp. Officers separated the individuals for the evening and issued each a Disorderly Conduct warning.

7-14-14 to 7-20-14
7-14-14 Valdez EMS responded to an individual in Area 1 who needed medical assistance. The patient was assessed with no transportation needed.
7-15-14 Valdez Hazmat team investigated alarm activation in Area 1. No hazard was found.
7-15-14 Valdez EMS responded to an individual having seizures. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-15-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on an individual in Area 1. The individual was assessed with no transportation needed.
7-17-14 Valdez Search and Rescue team was called in for 5 individuals who were stranded on the mountain back in Mineral Creek area. After a long night the Valdez Search and Rescue team reached the individuals and assessed them prior to being flown out of the area on Black Hawk helicopter. All individuals were rescued with no medical incidents.
7-17-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request to Anchorage from Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-17-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request for an individual having seizures on a fishing vessel in Prince William Sound. The EMS team was transported by the USCG to the fishing vessel. The individual was treated at the scene, no additional transportation was needed.
7-18-14 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who was unresponsive in Area 1. The individual was treated at the scene, no transportation was needed.
7-18-14 Valdez Hazmat team investigated an area with dry ice placed in a mud puddle. No additional investigated was needed.
7-19-14 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
