PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF April 13, 2015 – April 19, 2015, 2015
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Problems with Neighbors: A caller reported an individual yelling at him down the hall, then calling on the phone and hanging up. Officers contacted both parties to help resolve their issues.
Fraud: An individual received a fraud call from the Dominican Republic regarding his granddaughter being arrested.
Disturbance: A caller reported an individual was going through their usual antics. Officers made contact with the individual who stated that she’s just a loud talker. She was asked to use her quiet voice.
Gunshots Heard: A caller reported hearing gunshots by the dike. Officers responded and were unable to locate anyone shooting guns. Later an individual called and asked if it was legal to shoot at the dike.
Damage: A caller reported that someone hit an electrical half pole with meter on the corner of Pioneer and Clark.
Agency Assist: Officers assisted VFD on a structure fire at 19 mile.
Agency Assist: A caller reported a Cessna 180 airplane lost its engine enroute to Valdez. A message went out from USCG on Marine Channel 16 to all vessels to keep an eye out and report any sightings to the USCG.
Theft: A caller reported a 300 gallon oil tank was stolen from his yard. This case is currently under investigation.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a young child by herself crossing the highway by the animal shelter on her bike. Officers made contact with the 6 year old who stated she was on her way to CJ’s because that’s where her father was. Officers made contact with the parents and returned the girl to her father.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported that there were no flaggers for traffic control in a construction area. VPD contacted the project manager who stated that they would request that the state would set up a speed control zone with 25 mph signs.
ETOH Pedestrian: A caller reported an individual passed out and foaming at the mouth in the parking lot of the city hall. Officers responded and provided transportation for the individual to a sober responsible party.
Gunshots Heard: A caller reported hearing gunshots on West Klutina. Officers patrolled the area on foot and by car; and also made contact with an individual who claimed to not have heard anything.
Welfare Check: An individual requested a welfare check on his neighbor who he hadn’t seen for 5 days. It is believed the individual was in Anchorage for medical reasons.
Domestic: A caller reported that her husband threatened to hit her and she was scared. Officers responded and made contact with both parties. It was determined to be a verbal disagreement only.
Criminal Mischief: A caller reported 4 juveniles vandalizing the playground in Aleutian Trailer Park. Officers made contact with the juveniles and their parents. All parties involved are discussing how to repair the damage.
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a possible drunk driver. Officers made contact with the individual who was not driving. Transportation was provided.
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported seeing a single cab truck spinning around and nearly hitting Second Time Around. Officers responded and made contact with the individual. Arrested: McGee, Christian Cyle, DOB 07/12/1979, of Valdez was arrested for DUI, Breath Test Refusal, Negligent Driving, and Open Container. He was released on bail the next day.
Panic Alarm: A panic alarm was activated at the hospital. Officers responded and found out that a new employee had accidently tripped the alarm.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a snow blower had fallen out of the back of a truck. Officers responded and discovered an individual had already moved it out of the roadway.
MVA Hit & Run: A caller reported her vehicle had been hit. It turned out that her landlord accidently did the damage while operating equipment on the property. Officer provided cards and a case number to parties involved.
Disturbance: A caller reported an intoxicated individual was trying to start a fight. He was asked to leave the property but he refused. Officers responded and issued a citation for public intoxication. A friend of the individual was contacted to provide transportation.
911 Hang Up: VPD received a 911 hang up from a local business. Dispatch contacted the business who stated it was a mistake.
Trespassing: A caller reported a group of kids running through their yard shooting air soft guns. The parents were contacted and the issue was resolved.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a small rock slide that went in the road by Horsetail Falls. Dispatch contacted DOT Thompson Pass who cleaned up the debris in the road. Shortly after, a second rock slide went into the road. With the heavy rains, drivers should be cautious.
Title 47 – Alcohol: An individual was placed into protective custody after receiving a report of an individual passed out in the rain. The individual blew a .333 on a PBT and was held for 12 hours to sober up.
Welfare Check: Three calls were received about a possible domestic dispute at a private residence. Officers made contact with the parties involved and they were separated for the evening.
Parking Prohibited: A caller reported a motor home camping in the parking lot of a local grocery store. An officer made contact with the vehicle’s owners and they relocated to a new spot.

4-13-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
4-13-15 Valdez EMS responded to a call for a child who needed medical assistance. The patient was transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
4-13-15 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac request.
4-14-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to a chimney fire at 19 mile. The fire was extinguished and the area was secure.
4-15-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac request.
4-16-15 Valdez Hazmat Team responded to a possible CO leak. After investigation of the area, nothing was found.
4-17-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who needed medical assistance. The patient was treated at the scene and drove himself to the hospital.
4-17-15 Valdez EMS was on Stand-by during the Snow Machine Hill Climb event.
