PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF January 12 – January 18, 2015
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Assist Medical: Officer’s assisted the Fire Department on a medical call for a woman who had fallen on the ice.
SOR Register: The VPD assisted an individual with their annual Sex Offender Registration requirements.
MVA-D: An individual reported hitting another vehicle while pulling into his driveway. Officer’s advised the complainant that since it occurred on private property it was a civil matter.
Serve Time: Christopher Allen Sparks, DOB 5/01/93, of Valdez, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve 5 days after being found guilty on the charge of Criminal Mischief – Property Damage.
MVA- H&R: An individual came to the Valdez Police Department to report damage done to her vehicle some time during that same day while running errands at various local businesses. Anyone with any information, please contact the VPD.
Serve Time: Holly Lynne Mooney, DOB 6/04/1991, of Valdez, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve 3 days after being found guilty on the charge of Driving Under the Influence.
MVA-D: Two vehicles were involved in a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a local business. No injuries were reported.
Civil Dispute: An individual requested to speak to an officer regarding the recent breakup of himself and his girlfriend. The complainant reported there was still her personal items at his residence and he was concerned about his girlfriend coming back to retrieve them.
Agency Assist: Valdez Police Department assisted the Anchorage Judicial Services by serving Court Papers on a local resident.
Public Assist: An individual having a hard time walking on the ice in front of a local business flagged down an Officer for assistance.
Alarm – Panic: Multiple panic alarms were activated at a local business. An Officer investigated the building and found no one on the premise. Personnel of the business were notified of the situation and would check the alarms in the morning.
Stop FI: An Officer stopped to investigate a couple of semi trucks at the weigh station that were blocking the road. One of the tanker trucks had slid on ice and was in the process of putting chains on. No further assistance was needed.
Disturbance Bar: A complainant reported being at a local bar, that a woman was angry with her for an unknown reason and requested Officer assistance. Officers responded and determined that the woman was angry because another individual had been flirting with the complainant.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested by the roommate of an intoxicated person who had left their mutual residence stating he was going to hitchhike to Anchorage. While Officers were attempting to locate the individual, the complainant called back stating that she found him, he was okay and would be staying with friends for the night.
Stop FI: While on patrol, Officers stopped two juvenile pedestrians and provided transportation to their respective homes.
Vehicle in Ditch: A caller reported a vehicle in the ditch by Dylan and Richardson Highway. Officers responded, found the vehicle was far enough off the road so as not to impede traffic and provided transportation for the owner to their nearby residence.
Theft of Property: The theft of a half full bag of sand from the porch of a nearby residence was reported.
VID: A vehicle was reported in the ditch by the Tide Flats. An Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle who stated the vehicle was disabled and that a tow truck from Glennallen was on the way.
Warrant Arrest: Matthew Joshua Downing, DOB 12/30/1993, of Valdez, voluntarily turned himself in to the Valdez Police Department for arrest on a Bench Warrant issued for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on the original charge of Driving with License Cancelled/Suspended/Revoked.
VID: A caller reported a vehicle in the ditch on the Duck Flats. Officers responded, found the vehicle was out of the ditch, back on the road and no further assistance was needed.
Suspicious Vehicle: A report of a suspicious vehicle parked by the Bus Barn parking lot. An Officer made contact with an individual who was preparing for a school trip the next day. No other vehicles were located in the area.
Welfare Check: A welfare check on an individual that was screaming, crying and growling to the complainant over the phone was requested. An Officer checked on the individual and found that she appeared to be fine.
Serve Time: Christopher Alley, DOB 11/04/1994, of Valdez, checked in to the Valdez Jail to serve 12 months after being found guilty on the charge of Attempted Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance.
MICS Information: A complainant reported the theft of some prescription medications from his residence. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued by the Valdez Court.
Stalking: An individual reported that her ex-boyfriend was stalking her and that he had told her that he would be keeping tabs on her through social media. Case is currently under investigation.
Welfare Check: A caller reported that his girlfriend was threatening to kill herself and requested an Officer’s assistance. The Officer contacted the women at her residence and she stated that she did not have any intentions of killing herself.
Serve Time: James Lee Martin, DOB 04/24/87, of Copper Center checked into the Valdez Police Department to serve 30 days for original charges of Assault in the 4th Degree.
Public Assist: An Officer assisted a man, walking down the Highway, by giving him transportation to his residence.
Criminal Mischief: A caller reported someone had cut the hoses coming from his bilge pump on his vessel. This case is currently under investigation.
Welfare Check: A report of someone falling in the street and not getting up was received. Upon arriving at the scene Officers found a male and assisted him with transportation to his residence.
Summonsed: Alain Michal Stahley, DOB 05/03/96, of Valdez, was summonsed to appear on the charge of Furnishing Alcohol to Persons under the Age of 21.
Arrested: Diane Marie St Amand, DOB 5/21/80, of Valdez, was arrested on an Arrest Warrant for Theft 4th Degree and Violating Conditions of Release for a Misdemeanor.
MVA-H & R: An individual reported her vehicle was hit on Jan 15th while parked in front of a local business. She reported noticing a large green truck parked beside her vehicle and the damage on her vehicle had green transfer paint. The vehicle had damage to the front and rear quarter panel, passenger side.
Arrest: Mary Rae Kagak, DOB 12/02/80, of Valdez, was arrested for Assault 3rd Degree, two counts Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree.
Animal at Large: The Community Service Officer investigated a report of a dog at large.
MVA – D: A report of a vehicle rollover just past the Church of Nazarene with unknown injuries or occupants was called in. Officers responded to the scene and found one female occupant. A tow truck was requested for the vehicle.

1-14-15 Valdez Hazmat team responded to an odor near the Wells Fargo Building. The area was investigated and no hazmat situation was found.
1-15-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual feeling ill. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
1-15-15 Valdez Hazmat responded to a possible hazmat odor. The area was investigated and no hazmat situation was found.
1-16-15 Valdez Ems responded to a medical issue for an individual who was having difficulty breathing. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
1-18-15 Valdez EMS assisted Valdez Police Department with an individual.
1-18-15 Valdez EMS was on standby near the trap range during the ski race.
1-18-15 Valdez EMS responded to a single motor vehicle accident on the Richardson Highway. The patient was treated at the scene. PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN DRIVING
