PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF June 29 – July 5, 2015
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Neighbor Issues: (07:47 hrs) A caller reported having problems with her neighbor continually telling her to “shut up”, etc. Officers talked with the subject and explained to him that he needed to leave his neighbor alone.
Theft from Vehicle: (09:03 hrs) A flag was reported to have been taken from a vehicle.
Animal Impound: (12:13 hrs) A yellow lab was impounded after running at large without its owner.
Found Property: (15:40 hrs) Two large industrial sprayers were found. If yours, please call VPD to claim.
Domestic Violence Protective Order: (15:57 hrs) A protective order was requested to be served on an individual in Valdez.
Harassment: (18:09 hrs) Caller reported that her daughter was being harassed by an older man and wanted to know if VPD could intervene and get him to stop.
Curfew Violation: (01:30 hrs) Two juveniles were cited for curfew violation at 1:30am and returned to their parents.
Parking: (10:16 hrs) An owner of an apartment complex requested utility workers to move off of his property. It was determined that it was the utility easement and not their property.
Fraud: (12:45 hrs) A business owner reported that an individual wrote a check on a non-existent bank account. This case is under investigation.
Theft from Vehicle: (16:24 hrs) A caller reported that someone stole his passport, drivers license, cash and other documents from his unlocked vehicle. This case is under investigation. As a precaution: Always lock your vehicle!
Parking: (17:00 hrs) Caller reports that large motorhomes are taking up two parking spots at the harbor and should be parking in the designated “bigger” spots.
Intoxicated Individual: (20:12 hrs) A caller reported that a man was moaning and causing a disturbance in one the restroom stalls. Officers responded to find a large intoxicated male who had locked himself in a stall and had vomited all over himself. Officers assisted with removing him and helped him back to his boat to pass him off to his sober buddies.
Vehicle Theft: (06:46 hrs) A vehicle was reported stolen from the college maintenance facility. Glennallen Troopers responded to the report of a burglary in their area which involved a vehicle matching the description of the one taken from Valdez. The vehicle had already fled upon arrival, but the suspect was later apprehended while enroute to the Matsu area. Arrested: Shaun Gould, DOB: 83/79, of Valdez/Anchorage, for Felony Vehicle Theft. Other charges pending.
Civil Dispute: (13:11 hrs) Two individuals were reported to be fighting over a UHaul key. The issue was resolved and the parties separated.
Noise Disturbance: (22:26 hrs) On going issues with individuals operating heavy equipment after 10pm. VPD officer made several attempts to contact the subject by phone, but contact was not made. VPD officer responded to the location where there was heavy equipment running. The subject was given a citation.
Neighbor Issues: (22:59 hrs) Two intoxicated neighbors contacted VPD dispatch separately; each complaining of the other one. This is an ongoing issue.
Possible Drunk Driver: (23:24 hrs) VPD received a report that there were three intoxicated males spinning brodies in the parking lot of a restaurant and the caller had witnessed them drinking and smoking marijuana. Officers made contact with the vehicle and determined that the driver was not under the influence but was given a warning for reckless driving.
Harassment: (08:17 hrs) A caller reported that the individual in line behind him at the gas station was being rude and wanted him removed.
Traffic Hazard: (08:51 hrs) A caller reported that some tourists had set up their camera equipment in the middle of the highway causing issues for vehicles driving by. VPD officer explained to the tour guide that they cannot set up on the highway. Subjects complied and moved their equipment.
Criminal Mischief: (11:50 hrs) Parks & Rec equipment was reported damaged at the Robe River Park overnight. If you have any information about this incident, please contact VPD.
Assault: (16:24 hrs) A caller reported that a couple was engaged in an altercation by the ice cream shop. Officers responded and determined that it was a verbal only disagreement.
Bar Disturbance: (01:56 hrs) A local bar reported that a group of individuals were getting out of hand and requested officer presence. Subjects were leaving upon the officer’s arrival.
Disturbance: (08:23 hrs) A caller reported a man in the middle of the road screaming at the cars driving by. Officers responded and gave the individual a warning for Disorderly Conduct. The subject then agreed to move on and be quiet.
Serve Time: (14:28 hrs) Mary R. Kagak, DOB: 12/2/80, of Valdez, checked into the Valdez Jail to serve 30 days on an Original DV Assault Charge.
Motor Vehicle Accident: (18:20 hrs) A minor MVA was reported. Par forms were issued to those involved.
Suspicious Persons: (19:11 hrs) Two individuals were trespassed from a local bar after they were giving the bartender a hard time and refused to leave her alone.
Criminal Mischief: (20:41 hrs) A caller reported that someone had knocked over the porta potty at the skate park.
Found Property: (21:29 hrs) A phone was dropped off at City Hall. Dispatch was able to find the owner using 911 and our local data base. The owner was contacted and he picked up the phone the following day.
Fireworks: (00:39am) A caller reported that a group of individuals were shooting off fireworks towards the boats in the harbor. Officers made contact and they agreed to stop.
Fireworks: (01:10am) A caller reported that an individual sitting in a car outside of the bar was shooting fireworks and hitting other cars in the area. Officers responded, but the subject had left the area.
Title 47 Hold:(02:38am) VPD dispatch received a call about a male who was passed out in the middle of Chenega Avenue. Officers responded and found a male who was extremely intoxicated and had vomited & soiled himself. The officers wheeled the individual on a stretcher back to the Valdez Jail where he was placed under protective custody until he sobered up.
Disorderly Conduct:(03:53am) Officers responded to several reports of a fight in progress near the gas station. Upon contact, one individual refused to cooperate and was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct. Arrested: Isaac Masters, DOB: 4/8/93, of Fairbanks was arrested for DC and remained at the jail awaiting arraignment.
Welfare Check:(04:16am) VPD received a report from an individual who stated he had parked next to the “old abandoned barge” and awoke later surrounded by water and needed help. The tide was going out, so he eventually was able to walk out and his vehicle was pulled out.
Bear Incident:(11:35am) A caller reported that a bear and ripped their tent and was still in the area. VPD officer responded and found the bear with its paws draped around a bag of dog food it had pulled from the tent. The bear was hit with a less lethal round and decided to give up the dog food and leave the area. The campers were explained the regulations on camping and agreed to go to a designated camping area.
Fish & Game:(13:58pm) VPD received a report of an injured eagle on the Solomon Gulch Trail. The eagle could not be located.
Prostitution:(15:53 hrs) A caller reported that a female was soliciting customers for sex and would not leave the premise. She had already left when VPD was contacted.
Theft of Services:(15:57 hrs) A caller reported that someone was stealing Wi-Fi because they were not customers of the establishment.
Lost/Missing Property: (17:02 hrs) A caller reported that he had left his wallet and pants in the shower at the harbor and when he went back to get them they were gone.
Assault:(18:36 hrs) A caller reported a fight in progress at a local bar. Upon arrival the suspect was leaving but had gotten into a fight with the bartender. An officer made contact with suspect outside the establishment where the suspect continued to yell racial slurs at passer bys. The officer gave the suspect a warning which was ignored. Sheana M. Cashwell, DOB: 12/24/83, of Fairbanks was arrested for Assault 4th Degree, Drunk on Licensed Premises and Disorderly Conduct. She was transported to the Valdez Jail to await bail or arraignment.
Fireworks:(19:59 hrs) An individual reported that a group of people where lighting off fireworks on his street and they were hitting his house. Upon arrival, the group had already stopped. No damage was reported.
Animal Impound: (22:00 hrs) A dog was found running at large in the Robe River area. The caller brought the dog in and dropped it off at the shelter.
Fireworks: (00:54 hrs) A group of individuals were shooting off fireworks at each other down near the harbor. Officers made contact with them and told them that it was no longer legal to be lighting off the fireworks. They were also instructed to clean up their mess.
Fireworks: (1:00 hrs) Another group of individuals with fireworks. They agreed to quit and clean up their mess.
Noise Disturbance: (02:13 hrs) A caller reported that two other campers in the park would not be quiet and that they are intoxicated and being belligerent. Officers made contact with the two individuals who were not cooperative at first and then realized they should be quiet or they would be spending the night in jail.
Fireworks: (04:13 hrs) While patrolling the harbor area, VPD officers witnessed and individual throwing fire crackers out of a moving vehicle towards other cars. Officers pulled the vehicle over and confiscated the fireworks.
Welfare Check: (05:23 hrs) VPD received a report that there was an individual lying in the driveway in front of a bar on Egan Drive. Officers responded, but the intoxicated individual had already received assistance from his friends and where taking him home.
Theft of Bicycle: (10:17 hrs) A bicycle was reported stolen from a local business. As it turned out, the intoxicated individual who took the bike thought it was his own since it was similar in color. The bike was returned to its owner and no charges were filed.
Traffic Hazard:(11:41 hrs) A caller reported that a man was lying in the street trying to fix his bike. Officers responded and instructed the individual to move his maintenance efforts to a safer location.
Theft of Property: (14:23 hrs) A childrens table and chair set was reported stolen from a residence in Aleutian Village. If you have any information on this incident, please contact VPD.
Fireworks: (23:32 hrs) VPD received a report of someone lighting off fireworks in the area of the Valdez Mobile Home Park. Officers made contact with the individuals in question and they agreed to stop.

6-29-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual who had fallen. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
6-30-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing assistance.
7-1-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual needing medical attention. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-2-15 Valdez EMS responded to an individual in cardiac arrest. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-2-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire on Zurich Loop. The fire was contained and extinguished.
7-3-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to an unattended campfire on Dayville Road. The fire was contained and extinguished.
7-4-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request for a 35 year old male. The patient was treated on scene with no transportation needed.
7-4-15 Valdez EMS responded to a trauma assist call from Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-4-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medivac assist.
7-4-15 Valdez EMS responded to campers needing assistance. The campers parked during low tide and were awaken when the high tide started coming in and covering the wheels of their vehicle.
7-4-15 Valdez EMS was on standby during the Ruth Pond 4th of July events.
7-5-15 Valdez EMS responded to a 17 year old who had fallen at the Valdez Small Boat Harbor. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
7-5-15 Valdez Fire responded to an unattended camp fire at 4.2 mile on the Richardson Highway. The fire was extinguished.
7-5-15 Valdez Search and Rescue responded and assisted 2 individuals who were trapped on the beach near Gold Creek during high tide.
7-5-15 Valdez EMS responded to a public assistance call.
