PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
March 16 - 22, 2015
 

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
 
 
03/16
 
Welfare Check: An individual stated he was having a hard time and requested to speak with someone about it. Officers first spoke with the individual then contacted a counselor for him and transported him to the hospital where he could get a better evaluation.
 
Parking: A vehicle was parked on the side of the road creating a slight traffic hazard. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was moved.
 
MVA: A two vehicle accident was reported at Hanagita and Hazelet. There were no injuries and the parties met at the police department to exchange insurance information.
 
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on an individual after finding her purse in a house she didn’t live in. The individual was fine, she was just sleeping hard.
 
03/17
 
Transport: Officers assisted with transporting a man to the airport.
 
VID: Officers responded to a vehicle in the ditch at 6 mile. There were no injuries and no damage. The vehicle was removed from the ditch.
 
03/18
 
Public Assist: An officer was requested to witness the burning of expired pull tabs.
 
Animal Impound: A dog was impounded and later returned to the owner.
 
Littering: Officers were unable to locate a woman that was reported littering in the subway parking lot.
 
Disturbance: Officers assistance was requested in removing a guest from an individual’s home after the guest was using up all his resources. After talking with an officer, the individual stated she could stay as long as she didn’t smoke indoors.
 
Animal Noise: A dog was reported barking and howling in the late hours of the night. The owner was contacted who later took care of the dog.
 
Suspicious Person: A caller reported seeing a man trying to break into the front door of the Visitor’s Center. Officers responded but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. There was no damage to the door.  
 
03/19
 
Agency Assist: Officers assisted the Fire Department on a fire call.
 
Unattended Death: Officers responded to a report of a deceased individual. Next of kin have been notified.
 
Animal at Large: A caller reported an ongoing problem with a black dog. The information was forwarded to the Animal Control Officer.
 
03/20
 
Bar Disturbance: A local bar requested officer assistance with a patron trying to start a fight with a male in the bar then waiting for the male outside the bar. Officers gave the individual a ride home.
 
Assist Medical: Officers assisted the EMS crew with an individual who had fallen.
 
ATV: Officers contacted a man on a four wheeler with two children without helmets. The officer gave the children a ride home.
 
Trespassing: Officers trespassed an individual from a home she kept entering that didn’t belong to her.
 
Harassment: A local resident reported receiving harassing phone calls. This case is under investigation.
 
Traffic Hazard: Officers contacted the owners of a basketball hoop that was in the road with no reflectors and asked them to move it at night.
 
 
03/21
 
Assist Medical: Officers assisted the EMS crews with an unconscious male.
 
Welfare Check: An individual requested a welfare check on his wife after receiving disturbing text messages from her. Officers responded to the residence and determined everything to be fine.
 
03/22
 
Arrested: Cynthia A. Klatka, DOB 7/17/82 of Valdez, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for calendar call.
 
Assault Information: Officers responded to a report of a possible physical altercation that took place in Thompson Pass. Both parties were gone upon officer arrival. Glennallen AST was notified of the situation and asked to attempt a welfare check.
 
Found Property: A cell phone was found and turned in to VPD. Please contact Valdez Police Department with identifiers.
 
Unattended Death: Officers responded to a report of a deceased individual. Next of kin have been notified.

3-16-15 to 3-23-15
 
3-14-15 Valdez EMS responded to a trauma call. The patient was treated at the scene, no transportation was needed.

3-19-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to fire call on Falcon. The fire was extinguished.

3-19-15 Valdez EMS responded to a call at the Valdez Senior Center for on an unresponsive male. The individual had passed away.

3-20-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on Fiddlehead Lane. The individual was treated at the scene.

3-21-15 Valdez EMS responded to a call for an unresponsive patient. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

3-21-15 Valdez Haz-Mat team responded to investigate a possible CO leak. The area was investigated and no leak was found.

3-21-15 Valdez EMS responded to a Medivac request.

3-22-15 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on Hanagita. The area was investigated and the culprit for the alarm was burnt food.

3-22-15 Valdez EMS responded to a call for an unresponsive individual. The individual had passed away.

3-22-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on Dewey Court. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.

3-23-15 Valdez EMS responded to a Medivac request.

3-23-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request at the City of Valdez jail. The patient was treated at the scene, no transportation was needed.

3-23-15 Valdez EMS responded to a medical request on Pacific Avenue. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
