PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF October 20 – October 26, 2014
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Animal Neglect: Someone called in a report of a neglected dog that they wanted the Animal Control Officer to check out. ACO responded and knocked on several Trailer doors in the area but could not find a dog in the area.
Disturbance Other: A caller reported two individuals got into a minor disagreement. Officers responded and investigated with no further charges or arrest.
MVA – No Damage: An officer was requested at the school for two vehicles that hit each other in the parking lot. Officer responded to find very minor damage and insurance information had already been exchanged before he arrived. No further assistance needed.
Problems with Neighbors: Request for officer’s assistance with a guy in the next RV who is being disrespectful. Officer responded and told the complainant that the issue was not a police matter.
Agency Assistance: A protective order was served
MVA-D: A report of a vehicle on the side of the road with a flat tire was called in. DOT called in also to report a Motor Vehicle Accident. The owner of the vehicle called to report that he hit a patch of ice and slid off the road. A tow truck was called to assist. Officer’s placed flares out to light up the road.
VID: Officer responded to a Subaru off the road a ways by the Glacier Stream Bridge. Vehicle is in the ditch and has a flat tire. Dad was on his way to help, Officer stayed in the area until the father arrived.
Found Property: A bike was left in the Pipeline Club parking lot and was dropped off to the Valdez Police Department. The bike was returned to the owner.
Theft of Bicycle: A Men’s Black Mongoose bike, with full suspension white handlebars and red grips, was stolen from behind a building during the past 3 weeks. If found please turn into the Valdez Police Department.
Extra Patrol: An extra patrol was requested for Herman Hutchins Elementary School due to a lot of speeders.
Warrant Arrest: Kory Michael Lenahan, DOB 07/02/1989, of Valdez was arrested on a Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear for Arraignment. Original Charge of Drive while License Cancelled/Suspended/Revoked/Limited
MVA-D: A report of a minor motor vehicle accident at the corner of Dayville and Richardson Highway. A tow truck was requested. The towing company will take the vehicle to the owner’s residence.
Fish and Game: A person ran over a rabbit but could not pick it up off the road. Officer responded and removed the rabbit from the road.
Disturbance Noise: A report of a women screaming bloody murder was heard four times. Officer responded to the area and talked with complainant. Upon investigation could not find anyone in distress.
UFO: A person called in to report over the past week a geometrical, triangular shape has been seen about 30,000 feet up just hovering.
MVA-D: A Silver Van was parked at the repair shop for 1 week, when she went to get something out of it she noticed the right rear taillight was busted. Complainant stated she would talk with the owner of the business to work something out.
Animal at Large: A report of a chocolate Lab with no collar in Glacier View Trailer park was received. Officer found a White Lab at large and took it to the Animal Shelter.
Information Report: A report of an individual cutting wood illegally along Blueberry Hill. Officer investigated and found the individual had a permit.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a woman who had not been seen for 2 days and she would not answer the door. Officer checked the apartment and hospital but could not find the person. Officer’s left a message on subject’s answering machine. Subject called back later and stated she was in Anchorage with her sister and she was fine.
DUI: Abbiegail Marie Murphy, DOB 09/05/1987, of Valdez was arrested for DUI.
Barking Dog: A report of a dog on Sawmill Dr, which was locked inside a building and continuously barking, was received. The sound reverberates in the building waking up the complainant. He tried to talk to the owner of the dogs but could not resolve the issue. Officer responded and gave a warning for continuous noise – barking dog.
Found Property: A cell phone was found at the Courthouse and turned into the Valdez Police Department. The phone was returned to the owner.
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a woman who had not been heard from since Oct. 2nd. Officer investigated and found everyone fine.
Fraud Credit Card: Someone reported that their Debit Card was used in Kotzebue for charges at a restaurant. Currently under investigation.
Theft of Property: Two 4th generation IPods where stolen from the boys locker room during practice. Anyone with information on this please contact the Valdez Police Department.
Fireworks: A complaint was received about kids in the street setting off fireworks. Officer responded but when they arrived they did not find anyone in the area with fireworks.
Animal Cruelty: A report of a man beating his white lab dog by Ruth Pond was called in. Officers responded and searched the area but were unable to locate a man with a dog.
Disturbance Noise: A report of Kids running around the church and slamming doors and being loud was called in. Officer contacted the chaperones and they stated the noise would be kept to a minimum.
Welfare Check: A request for a welfare check came in from a Brother who was unable to get in touch with his sister. Sister was contacted, she was fine and stated she would contact her brother.
Disturbance Noise: A report of a woman screaming and making a huge racket in her apartment was called in. Officer contacted the person and gave her a Disturbance Complaint warning.
Traffic Hazard: A report of a parked truck on a blind corner was creating a traffic hazard. Officer responded to find everything was fine and safety cones were out to alert others of the hazard.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported seeing sparks coming from under the carriage of a fuel truck. Officer contacted the driver of the vehicle and he will switch trucks until he figures out what the problem is.
VID: A person called to report they had gone into the ditch at mile post 172 and requested a tow truck. Matcom assisted the motorist in getting a tow truck.

10-19-14 Valdez EMS responded to a medical assistance call for an individual having difficulties breathing. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
10-20-14 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac transport.
10-22-14 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac transport.
10-23-14 Valdez Hazmat team investigated a possible fuel leak on Chena Street. No fuel leak was found.
10-23-14 Valdez Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Cottonwood Apartments. No fire was found after investigation of the area. The alarm was reset.
10-24-14 Valdez EMS assisted with a medivac transport.
10-25-14 Valdez EMS assisted Providence Valdez Medical Center with a patient.
