PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
December 15 – December 21, 2014
 
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
 
 

12/15
 
Disturbance – Noise: A caller reported his neighbor was making too much noise while removing snow with a shovel. Officers explained to the individual that it is not illegal to shovel snow at any hour.
 
Reckless Driving: A concerned caller reported a vehicle heading inbound on the Richardson Highway for possible reckless driving. Officers contacted the driver and gave them a verbal warning.
 
Title 47 – Mental: At the request of the counseling center, Officers took custody of an individual in a non-criminal hold at the VPD due to the subject being at risk for committing self-harm.
 
Agency Assist: Officers assisted with AST Anchorage in serving a search warrant at a local business.
 
Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: A caller reported a minor fender bender that occurred near a residence. One vehicle had slid on the ice and collided with a parked vehicle.  Officers facilitated the exchange of information by involved parties.

Vehicle in Ditch: A caller reported that a vehicle was stuck in the woods behind her with the engine still running, the lights on and that someone might still be in the vehicle. The caller reported the vehicle had been there about an hour and that there was no road or feasible way to get a vehicle back there. Officers responded, but did not locate anyone in the vehicle. The owner was located at their residence nearby and requested Officers facilitate a tow truck. 
 
Neighbor Issues: A person asked for Officer assistance regarding some personal property being stored in his residence that he wanted removed. Officers contacted the owner of the property who stated they would remove it.
 
Civil Dispute: A personal computer was reportedly hacked. It was determined that the individual had given the subject their password for their wi-fi and was still using it.  VPD suggested changing  their password.
 
Summons: Glen R Mills, DOB 5/29/70 out of Valdez was summons by citation for Leaving the Scene of a motor vehicle accident on 12/13/14, after his vehicle collided with two vehicles in a business parking lot.
 
Trespassing: Officers issued a verbal trespass warning to an individual at the request of another individual.

Fraud: A caller reported he had received calls from an individual claiming to be his grandson requesting money via gift cards to be sent to a jail for bail money. Officers would like to advise the public that this is a scam. If you receive a call similar, contact the police department.
 
Trespassed: A man was trespassed from another individual’s vessels after an investigation was completed involving both parties.
 
Theft of Money: It was reported that approximately two money orders had been stolen after being placed on the door of their landlord’s residence. This case is currently under investigation.
 
Serve Time: Abbiegail Murphy, DOB 09/05/1987, of Valdez, reported to the Valdez Jail to serve three days on the original charge of Driving Under the Influence.
 
Reckless Endangerment: A concerned caller reported children were running around on Ruth Pond and could break through the ice. Officers advised the parents and children that the ice was unsafe to be on. There is also a sign stating “Thin Ice”.
 
Welfare Check: An individual was taken to the counseling center by officer’s after making a concerning statement potentially endangering the safety of others.
 
ATV: A caller reported that a loud ATV almost ran into three vehicles while driving down the roadway recklessly. Officers were unable to make contact with any vehicle matching the description given.  Officers did make contact later with the subject, who denied driving in any manner deemed reckless.
 
Barking Dog: A dog had reportedly been barking continuously for two hours on a residential street. Upon officer arrival, the barking had stopped.

Suicide Attempt: An individual was transferred to the counseling center after it was reported that suicidal statements had been made. 
 
Credit Card Fraud: Fraudulent charges were reportedly made on a credit/debit card. This case is currently under investigation.
 
Reckless Driving: A caller reported a vehicle passed her and a school bus in a no passing zone. The driver of the vehicle was contacted, and issued a verbal warning for Reckless Driving.
 
Medical Assistance: Officers assisted medical personnel with an individual who had fallen and was very confused.
 
Animal Impound: A dog was taken to the animal shelter after it had reportedly been barking for hours and the owners were unable to be contacted.
 
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported an ATV was driving recklessly on a roadway, almost hitting an oncoming vehicle. The driver was contacted and issued a verbal warning for Reckless Driving.

Noise Disturbance: Blaring music was reportedly coming from a residence nearby. Upon officer’s arrival, there wasn’t any loud music in the area.
 
Animal Cruelty: A concerned caller reported that her dog had been beaten up earlier that day. The individual later called back stating the dog was taken to the vet who said the dog most likely had fallen on the ice.
 
Attempted Burglary: A caller reported hearing individuals during the night outside of her residence. The next morning she stated that the glass pane in the door was shattered. Upon officer’s arrival it was determined the glass had been broken from the inside, and a burglary had not occurred.
 
Welfare Check: A welfare check was requested on a neighbor after noticing their vehicle’s door had been left open all morning. Officer’s contacted the owner of the vehicle who stated they were fine. Their children had accidentally left it open.
 
Vehicle in Ditch: A maroon truck was reportedly in the ditch alongside the highway. Officer’s contacted the driver of the vehicle who was uninjured and working to get the vehicle back on the roadway.
 
Theft – Property: A business owner out of Fairbanks reported that a rug doctor they had sub leased to a business in Valdez was never returned by the renter. Officers made contact with the renter who stated he had rented it for someone else, and was no longer in possession of it. This case is currently under investigation.
 
Reckless Driving: A semi truck reportedly passed a vehicle in a no passing zone. Officers were unable to locate a truck matching the description given.
 
Theft: A caller reported prescription medication had gone missing from their home within the last couple of weeks. This case is currently under investigation.
 
Possible Drunk Driver:  A caller reported a reckless driver almost hit them in the Mineral Creek Loop Rd area and was headed to Town.  Upon investigation by the Officer no alcohol was involved, the Driver had slid on ice.
 
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported witnessing an individual have several drinks inside of a bar, then get in a vehicle and drive off. Officers were unable to make contact with the driver of the vehicle.

Noise Disturbance: Loud music and partying was reportedly coming from a trailer nearby. Officers made contact with the residence of the trailer, who agreed to keep the noise level down.
 
Theft: A caller reported prescription medication had gone missing from their home on December 19th. This case is currently under investigation.
 
911 Hang Ups:  Two 911 calls came in simultaneously, no one on the line, just music no one answered.  Contact was made with the local business and it was a problem with the phone, not an emergency.
 
Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage:  A caller reported a motor vehicle accident involving a building on private property. The Driver and passenger were uninjured but there was damage to the structure.  Upon investigation the Officer assessed the damage and issued par forms.
 
12/21
 
Found Property:  A credit card was found at the Teen Center Drive Thru and turned into the Police Department.  Please call the Police Department with identifiable information to claim.
 
Threat: A caller reported that he was being threatened by a female acquaintance who had told him that she was ‘going to get him.’ The caller also reported that she was sending him nude pictures of herself and he wanted her to stop.
 
Fish & Game: A report of a dead Eagle on the side of the road was called in.  An Officer located the animal and removed it from the road.
 
Disturbance Other:  A report of a large fire on hotel hill was received.  Officers investigated the area and found it was a group of adults with a bonfire.  Officers would like to advise the public that this area is very dangerous since the brush has been cleared and it is not safe to drive a vehicle in this area.
 
Motor Vehicle Accident - Hit & Run:  A vehicle was hit while it was parked at a local business overnight.  This case is currently under investigation.

12-16-14 Valdez EMS responded to a trauma call for a patient who had fallen from scaffolding. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to Providence Valdez Medical Center.
