VALDEZ – The New Year roared into Valdez with cold temperatures and winds that had residents searching their neighborhood for items blown away by gusts in excess of 50 mph. The National Weather Service reported gusts in town peaked at 69 mph Sunday with a wind chill readings below zero degrees. The National Weather Service reported 76 mph winds in Thompson Pass. Peak wind gusts in Palmer hit 88 mph over the weekend.
