The Valdez Football team traveled to Nikiski to take on the Bulldogs this past weekend.
Receiving the ball at the beginning of the 1st quarter, the Bucs controlled the ball and utilized the clock driving the length of the field to enter the red zone and a scoring position with just over 3 minutes remaining in the quarter. Unfortunately, two timely miscues stopped the drive, and they ultimately turned the ball over to the Bulldogs on loss of downs near the goal line. A larger, stronger Bulldog team took offensive control and a few big plays later, quickly scored.
Following the initial drive, the Bucs had difficulty maintaining long offensive drives to enter scoring position the rest of the game. The team played hard and battled defensively, but without the ability to consistently move the ball and eat up some clock, the Bucs defense wore down and began to give up some large runs.
The Bucs’ two scores of the game came on kickoff returns by Andrew Baczuk of 70 and 80 yards, as well as a two point conversion by Kyle Peterson. The final score of the game 42-16 in favor of the Bulldogs.
This coming week the Bucs will travel to play the Seward Seahawks on Saturday at noon.
