Celebration of Life:

We invite you to join us in remembering and celebrating the life of our beloved Doug Johnson. His warmth, humor, generosity and deep sense of service have touched all our lives.

Following the memorial service, we will host a potluck reception in the downstairs gathering hall of the church, in honor of one of Doug’s most cherished traditions.

𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Please consider bringing finger foods or desserts to share. As a special tribute to Doug, Diet Coke – his favorite drink – will be served. This gathering will be an opportunity for all of us to share memories, stories, and photographs, and reconnect with those who held Doug close to their hearts.

For those unable to attend in person, we will provide a live stream of the service. The link will be shared on this event page on Saturday.

Obituary:

Doug Johnson (November 18, 1953 – September 28, 2023)

Johnson, Douglas Arnold (Age 70), of Valdez, AK, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023. He was born in Minneapolis, MN, to Betty and Leonard Johnson. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by Audrey (wife) and children Jon Spader, Tim Spader (Darcy), Shannon Takao (Dustin), Sheila Collins (Sawyer), and Morgan “Jay” Johnson. Doug was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and worked hard for the community of Valdez at PWSCC, Alyeska Pipeline Services, Valdez City Schools, Safeway, and Providence Medical Center, as well as his business Professional Computer Services. He also served on the School Board for Valdez City Schools from 2002–2006. He loved spending time with his family and friends in his free time and included them in his other passions, such as boating, baseball, grilling, and restoring his Marlin. He was generous and always ready to give advice to those who needed it. He will be remembered as a caring and compassionate man who loved his family, friends, and community and will be forever missed by them all. In lieu of flowers, please remember Doug by doing something he enjoyed such as buying a gift for a child through Angel Tree or inviting a single person or family in need over for a holiday. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on November 11, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Valdez, AK.
