Former City Council Member and Mayor Lynn Chrystal passed away in March of 2024. Chrystal served as Mayor of Valdez from 1976 to 1977 and again 1989 to 1990. He served seven terms on the Valdez City Council between 1978 and 1999. Chrystal served four years in the Air Force and 36 years with the National Weather Service. Chrystal was appointed to the State of Alaska Local Boundary Commission in 2007 and served as chair from 1009 to 2018. He was an active community member, serving on several civic boards, including the Pioneers of Alaska and Copper Valley Electric Cooperative. Chrystal lived in Valdez from 1975 to 2014, and relocated to Wasilla when he retired.
