This past weekend the Bucs traveled to the Valley to join 30 other 3A and 4A teams for the Palmer Invitational. Friday started cold and blustery and the wind increased as the day went on. Our team tent almost went airborne, saved only by the cat-like reflexes of team members who snagged it as the wind snapped the zip ties that secured the tent to the fence. Other teams weren’t as fortunate as their tents took flight and sailed over the track, landing in a crumpled heap. It was challenging to run, jump, or throw into the freezing gusts, but the Buccaneer athletes truly showed their mettle and even secured some new personal records. Izzy Kizer set a new school record in the Triple Jump with a jump of 33’ 6”, and Rafe Caruthers set a new personal record in the 1600m with an impressive 4:54.74. It’s exciting to see the improvements that our athletes make each week. Next week the Buccaneer Track team travels to Fairbanks to compete at West Valley in our Region Preview meet.
