The Buccaneers took on the Seward Seahawks this past weekend in gridiron action. The Seahawks are the heavy favorite in the 9 man league this year, coming in off a big win over Nikiski last week. The Seahawks quickly showed why they are the team to beat as they scored easily on their first pass play of the game. Being outmatched in weight and strength, the Buccaneers found difficulty on both sides of the ball executing their game plan.
After going scoreless the first half, the Bucs finally found paydirt in the middle of the 3rd quarter on a long pass from Andrew Baczuk to Merrick McCumby. McCumby also took the ball into the endzone for the two-point conversion.
With less than a minute and a half left in the 3rd, a very long injury timeout was required. Due to players standing in the rainy weather for a long period of time and becoming cold and stiff, it was readily apparent that continuing the game might risk further injury. As the 4th quarter would include a running clock as well, a decision was made to call the game at that point. The ending score was Seward: 64, Bucs 8.
This week, the Buccaneers travel to Nikiski to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday at noon. We appreciate our dedicated fans that support us with such enthusiasm.
