The Valdez High School Cross-Country Team traveled north with the middle school cross country team for a friendly race against our neighbors, Glenallen. The high school boys and girls ran in one race and middle schoolers followed in a second race.

A total of 16 boys and 6 girls began the races. Glenallen’s Andrew Severs dominated his slippery home course with a first place finish of 19:23. Freshman Kaden VanBuskirk ran strong the entire race and earned 2nd Place a minute later at 20:24. Junior James Humphrey took 3rd at 21:06 with Freshman Cirque Carter and Junior Reggie Baksis not far behind taking 4th and 5th place at 21:21 and 21:27. Senior Romen Weber took 9th at
23:38 and Sophomore Robert Taylor wasn’t far behind in 10th place at 24:15. Freshman Zach Berkley cruised across the finished line in 11th place at 25:14. Sophomore Jewely Weber placed 3rd with a finish of 28:36 and Junior Morgan Hamilton maintained a steady pace and finished 5th at 30:40.

All runners’ times were a couple of minutes slower from last week in North Pole. Athletes were faced with a wet course and little time to warm up before racing. A big shout out to Sarah Carter for leading the team this weekend in Glenallen. Next, we test our grit against most of Alaska in Palmer next weekend.
