This weekend the varsity volleyball team had their first competition of the season playing in our annual Valdez Invite against Lathrop, North Pole, Barrow, Delta, Seward, Houston, and Reddington. We had a great weekend to kick off the year. On Friday we played each team in one set to 25. We went 5-2, only losing to Seward and North Pole. The girls played hard and were scrappy in every set. This put us in 3rd going into the Gold pool for Saturday.
On Saturday, the girls played 3 sets in the Gold pool play. They played Lathrop, North Pole, and Seward going 2-1. Gold pool play ended in a 3 way time for first place between Seward, Lathrop, and us. It came down to point differential for who would play in the Championship. Lathrop had a plus 12 and we had a plus 16 putting us to compete against each other for the third time in 4 years. The girls played amazing in both sets of the championship but fell short in the end. I have high hopes for this team to do great things this season as they work hard and step up to whoever they are playing against.
