The Buccaneer football team traveled to Fairbanks to take on the Monroe Rams. This was the second meeting of the year for these two teams, with Valdez easily taking the first contest played in Valdez 4 weeks ago. This time the Bucs came up short, losing to the Rams by a score of 28-20.
The Bucs have faced some adversity this past couple weeks with several players unable to fully participate in daily practice for a number of varied reasons. With limited players, this meant that several players had to learn new positions quickly. Although the Buccaneers took an early lead and led at the half with a score of 20-8, a combination of coaching errors and communication breakdowns took a toll in the second half. Fumbles, missed snaps, and other unforced errors also contributed to easy scores by the Rams and missed opportunities by the Bucs.
The loss dropped the Bucs to 1 – 3 on the season, currently tied with Monroe. Two games remain in this short season, with the Bucs heading to powerhouse Seward this weekend. Although the Bucs look to be short handed again this week, we look to rebound from this past game and work hard to eliminate our errors.
