This week the Valdez Bucs traveled to Anchorage for the Dimond Service tournament. Twenty of the top 4A and 3A teams were in attendance.
Friday’s pool play started with the Lady Bucs up against Service. Valdez got off to a rocky start and couldn’t battle back against the opponent’s strong offense, dropping both sets 13-25 and 15-25. Next up was Palmer. The Bucs started to find some momentum late in the game, but ultimately lost both sets 18-25 and 20-25. The Lady Bucs got off to a solid start with good defense and smart offense against West Valley winning the first set easily 25-14. But they lost their way in the second set narrowly losing 21-25. The last game of pool play was against West Anchorage. Once again, the Lady Bucs came out strong taking the first set 25-13 but dropping the second set 19-25. After lots of ups and downs the Bucs finished 3rd in pool play which placed them into the Silver Bracket for Saturday.
In the first round of the bracket play the Bucs faced Kodiak. They started to find the holes in the opponent’s defense but came up just shy in both sets 22-25, 23-25 which knocked them down to the consulation games. The Bucs pulled it together to take a win in both sets over Grace 25-22, 25-14 which set them up for the next game against Soldotna. The Bucs tried to find the intensity against a much taller block, but came up short (pun intended) 15-25, 10-25.
This week the Lady Bucs will face Delta at home as we celebrate our lone senior at Kelsey Night!! Come on out and support your home team!
