This was a busy culminating week for the Junior Varsity Buccaneer Volleyball team! They played a mid-week match against the Glennallen Panther Varsity Volleyball team and then ended the week (and their season) with Friday and Saturday matches against the Delta Huskies.

On Wednesday the team traveled to Glennallen for a turn-and-burn match against the Panthers varsity team. The last time the Bucs had faced the Panthers was at the Lumen Christi 2A volleyball tournament where the Bucs ended up on top of a close and aggressive match (claiming the victory at 25 – 18). The Bucs were excited to face the Panthers once again, but the Panthers were determined to not have a repeat defeat against the Bucs in their hometown gym. The Panthers beat the Bucs in the first three sets but offered to play an entire match so both teams could have more playing time. The Bucs gave up the next two sets as well for a complete 5-set victory to the hometeam. Serving errors were a considerable contribution to match loss.

The Bucs faced the Delta Huskies at home for their last matches of the season. Starting out for the Bucs were Parker King, Eeva Tiura, Savanah Pruitt, Laken Unger, River Smelcer, and Laela Scott, with Whitney Major and Ava Mitchell coming in off the bench. Unger had a long serving streak in the first set but the Huskies ended up winning narrowly 23-25. Starting out for the Bucs in our second set were King, Tiura, Cersei Strickland, Harper Ownbey, Smelcer, and Scott with Jezelle Eskilida and Mitchell coming in off the bench. Tiura made some aggressive plays at the net, but Delta held control of the game and came out on top 12 – 25. The Bucs fought back in the next three sets. Laela Scott had a 12 point serving streak with 50% aces that put Huskies on their heels in set 3. The Bucs picked up their communication and control and pulled off a match victory against Delta on Friday night. The team was extremely proud of both Jezelle Eskilida and Harper Ownbey who stepped to the line as servers during this match.

On Saturday morning the Bucs woke up ready to play. They started off with a 25-12 point victory that culminated with Ava Mitchell serving the final three serves, two of which were aces. In the second set Pruitt put up a tremendous fight on the net, but the team gave away too many service errors to the Huskies who won 19 – 25. Delta also won the third set, but the Bucs put up a fight in the final two sets. Laken Unger hit some sweet down the line attacks from the right side while River Smelcer claimed a kill from outside. Laela Scott did a terrific job on defense as our libero covering the entire court. The Bucs ended up winning the match on Saturday in the fifth set.

Great job, Bucs! A great way to end the season!
