The School Board approved adjustments to the 2024-2025 secondary school calendars and bell schedules, effective Monday, December 2, 2024, for Gilson Middle School (GMS) and Valdez High School (VHS). In a press release to parents, Interim Superintendent Jason Weber said these changes are necessary to ensure that GMS and VHS meet the state-required 900.95 hours of instructional time.
Key Changes for GMS & VHS Students (Grades 6-12), as of 12/2/2024:
- New Start and End Times (Monday-Thursday): School will start at 8:05 AM and end at 3:30 PM.
- New Required Attendance Dates:
- All secondary students will now attend school on the following Fridays: December 13, February 28, and March 7. These dates will not be considered ‘Flex’ Fridays. Students not present will be considered absent.
- Friday schedule for 12/13/24, 2/28/25, 3/7/25: 8:05 AM – 2:15 PM.
- All secondary students will now attend school on the following dates: January 20 and March 6. These dates will no longer be considered Inservice Days. Students not present will be considered absent.
- Monday-Thursday schedule: 8:05 AM – 3:30 PM
- All secondary students will now attend school on the following Fridays: December 13, February 28, and March 7. These dates will not be considered ‘Flex’ Fridays. Students not present will be considered absent.
- Lunch and Passing Time Adjustments: Lunch periods and passing times have been slightly reduced to accommodate the new schedule.
Elementary School Schedule (Pre-K – 5th Grade): Please note that these changes do not affect the calendar and daily schedule at Hermon Hutchens Elementary School.
