This past weekend, the Valdez JV Boys Basketball team participated in the Mountain City Invitational, facing off against some tough competition. The tournament provided both exciting moments and valuable learning experiences for the team.

In their opening game, the boys played a thrilling back-and-forth contest against Mountain City. Valdez led for much of the game, even holding a 7-point advantage in the 4th quarter. However, Mountain City managed to pull ahead in the final 30 seconds, securing a dramatic 3-point win, 46 – 43. Despite the tough loss, the Valdez boys learned valuable lessons and went into the next game with a positive attitude.

Next, the team faced Service High School’s C team in another close matchup. With the game tied in the final minutes, it came down to a nail-biting finish. Unfortunately, Valdez again fell short by just 1 point, losing 52-51. The final two minutes were an intense back-and-forth battle, and though the result wasn’t in their favor, the players demonstrated their ability to compete at a high level.

In their third and fourth games, Valdez took on West High School, a team known for their skill and depth. While Valdez put up a strong fight, the experience against a well-established team provided invaluable lessons. West’s high-powered offense led them to an 80-50 victory, but the game gave the Valdez players the opportunity to see where they can improve and how they can better compete against elite teams.

Overall, the weekend was a mix of close calls and learning opportunities. The team showed great potential, and despite the tough losses, they gained valuable experience that will help them grow throughout the season. We’re excited to see how they continue to develop and look forward to the upcoming games!
