On January 16, 2025, Valdez City Schools experienced a network disruption due to a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. This type of cyberattack floods a network with excessive traffic, temporarily overwhelming systems and causing service slowdowns. While this incident disrupted internet access and online services for a few hours, no sensitive data was compromised.
Our technology team worked closely with service providers to identify and mitigate the issue, and network stability was restored the same day. We continue to monitor for any further disruptions and are implementing additional safeguards to strengthen our cybersecurity defenses.
