The Valdez JV boys’ basketball team had an impressive showing at the Richard Frazer Basketball Tournament in Tok this past Thursday and Friday. In the first round, Valdez faced Tok’s JV squad and set the tone early with strong defense, forcing turnovers and turning them into fast-break points. They dominated from start to finish, securing a 70-30 win. The semifinals brought a tougher challenge against Tok’s varsity team, but Valdez rose to the occasion with unselfish team play and relentless defense. Their composure and execution down the stretch led to a hard-fought 51-44 victory, punching their ticket to the championship game. In the final, Valdez battled against a sharp-shooting Huslia team. Despite Huslia’s high-percentage three-point shooting, Valdez never backed down, rallying multiple times in the fourth quarter to keep the game within reach. In the end, they came up just short, falling 64-60 in a thrilling contest. Though they didn’t take home the championship, the team’s effort, leadership, and resilience stood out. They played with heart and represented Valdez with pride—an impressive weekend of basketball all around.
