Courtesy of VHS Boys Basketball Coach – This weekend we participated in the 47th annual Elks Tournament. It was a very long and fun weekend with a plethora of great teams participating.
The boys first faced off against the Cordova Wolverines, in what we’d consider to be our oldest rivalry. It was a real grind it out game. Cordova took an early lead and continued to battle into the half. In the second half, our Bucs turned things around and managed to pull out the first- round win!

In the semi-finals round we had a rematch of last year’s first round opponent at state: the
Barrow Whalers. This was one of the most exciting games we’ve been a part of. It went back and forth the entire way and went to three overtimes! Unfortunately, in the 3 rd OT, Barrow went on a small scoring run and that was just enough for them to secure the win and advance, sending our Bucs to the 3rd /5th place game.

In our final contest we played against Lathrop. Lathrop jumped out to an early lead and took command the entire way through which led to our Bucs falling short by double digits.
There were a lot of great learning experiences for the guys and we look forward to bouncing back this upcoming weekend where we have our final set of conference games against the Hutchison Hawks.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help during the tournament! Go Bucs
