The Gilson Middle School Volleyball team took 35 players to Delta this weekend for an action packed tournament.
Here’s a recap from A team’s Coach Craig: “Our A team played a total 12 games this weekend and came in 3rd out of 5 teams in the Varsity bracket.  Our toughest opponent was the Monroe Rams, who beat us by just 1 point in two out of the 3 games we played against them. The Rams’ strong net play was tough for our young team and showed us that we need to work more on digging tips and covering out hitters. Our team showed heart and determination as they battled back from being behind due to strong serving and were able to even the score out in several of the games. One big difference between this weekend’s games and the games against Glenallen last weekend is that our front row players had a lot more action on offense as they were blocking, tipping and hitting more.  Ultimately, this tournament revealed our strengths and weaknesses and I am very proud of them for how hard they worked. A huge congratulations to Raina Wells and Parker King for earning All Tournament Team awards!

GMS Volleyball competed in DeltaC Team’s Update from Coach Fuschetto: “This weekend the Valdez C team had plenty of opportunities for game play at the Delta tournament.  They worked hard on passing and communication on the court, finishing with 6 wins and 8 losses against some tough opponents.  Throughout the weekend there were many highlights for this young team, including some getting their first serves over in game play and others attacking the ball for their first big hits! Strong serving earned Avery Franklin a spot on the All Tournament team. Great job girls!

B Team’s update from Coach Christensen: “This weekend Valdez B team had a great weekend.  Played 14 sets total in which only 3 of them were losses.  They got to experience first hand what being under pressure feels like as we headed up for the Championship game against TOK. Girls played hard all weekend, had some great plays and some learning opportunities.  Their communication and skill has improved a lot since week one and it shows on the court as well. We fell short against Tok in the championship game and brought home 2nd place. Alaina Hoffman got ALL TOURNAMENT team with a strong serving score of over 45 serves this weekend.  Great job to all the girls!”
