Avalanche last Sunday covered 1,000 feet of roadway

DOT crews cleared an avalanche at Mile 39 of the Richardson Highway last Sunday. The avalanche covered 1,000 feet of the roadway and DOT worker Dave Wiley said it was 10 to 15 feet high. Wiley said he and Gill Martell brought a dozer up to the avalanche and he took a video while Martell drove. Loaders opened one lane through the avalanche but there was so much snow they needed a dozer to help. Wiley said Robert at DOT calculated about 22,000 yards of snow was on the road.
