Van Craft has served as KVAK’s engineer for the last 24 years. He’s the guy that takes the call when KVAK’s equipment needs repair or upgrades. Recently, KVAK invested in equipment and software to bring KVAK’s radios station audio to streaming platforms. While working at the transmitter site, the power went out and when it returned the AM transmitter did not come back to life. Van sent parts from the transmitter to Washington for repair and made another trip back to Valdez to install the parts after they were repaired. Craft works for a group of five major radio stations in Anchorage and Valdez is fortunate to have his assistance with keeping our small town radio stations going. “I believe everyone deserves radio,” Craft once commented when asked why he travels to remote locations to help with station installs and maintenance.
