Courtesy of Coach Beck – The Buccaneer ski team competed in two races this weekend totaling in 12 kilometers of racing. Friday the skiers competed in the Keni Klassic. This was a challenging race not just due to the
cold temperatures but also because it was the team’s first time competing in a Skiathalon. In a skiathalon a skier is challenged by skiing both techniques in one race. The first 4K lap was classic
technique. Skiers then switched out of their classic skis and poles into skate skis and took off again for another 3K loop. The next day was the Seward invite. The Bucs enjoyed warmer conditions and a beautiful race course for a 5K skate race. This course had lots of hills and sharp turns. I was proud to see their hard work from practicing hills and step turns paying off. Not only the skiing but the toughness to compete in new races and challenging trails.
Great performance by the Buccaneers this weekend!
